    Reports To: Principal

    Purpose of Role:

    • The Assistant Principal drives student achievement as an instructional leader by providing excellent instructional coaching and professional development to benefit classroom instruction and the Learning Lab. The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing teachers, blended learning facilitators, and PE coaches the training and support necessary to be highly effective, professional educators.
    • The Assistant Principal is integral to the SPARK Schools “culture” and our commitment to rigorous, engaging learning experiences for our scholars

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure the continual professional development of our educators by coaching members of the instructional staff to the successful completion of the goals set in their individualised professional growth plans. This includes designing and facilitating weekly professional development sessions for the whole faculty, as well as arranging for individual professional growth opportunities.
    • Support student achievement by setting clear and high expectations for excellent teaching in all content areas. Maintain a regular schedule of observations in all learning spaces and observation review meetings with educators to ensure that they can successfully plan instruction, execute instruction, and implement SPARK Schools’ culture and behaviour management techniques.
    • Implement the network’s rigorous curriculum, which aligns to and extends the South African national curriculum.
    • Implement online curriculum and small ­group tutoring in the Learning Lab that aligns to and extends what is taught by classroom teachers.
    • Facilitate an assessment and data analysis cycle that allows instructional staff to analyse student performance and identify areas for targeted instruction.
    • Collaborate with school leadership team to manage instructional staff, including facilitating termly and final evaluations.
    • Participate in the selection of new school-based personnel.
    • Responsible for the onboarding of instructional staff members.
    • Define and share information about network-wide policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community.
    • Implement disciplinary policies and procedures.
    • Participate actively in staff development opportunities as a member of the SPARK Schools team.
    • Conduct self in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools events and to all stakeholders.

    Requirements
    Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

    • English language fluency.
    • Clear criminal record.
    • Grade 12 Certificate.
    • Completed B.Ed or PGCE degree.
    • SACE registration.

    Experience:

    • Previous experience managing or working with primary school-aged children.
    • At least 2 years of excellent classroom instruction.
    • Previous experience leading a team.
    • Experience and practice with labour laws.

    Purpose of Role:

    The SPARK Schools Human Capital Business Support position drives student achievement in our network of schools by ensuring that all human capital matters are effectively managed at all levels of the organisation, so staff can effectively serve our scholars. The SPARK Schools Human Capital Business Support is the custodian of human capital administration to ensure that staff are supported as “A-team players.”

    The Human Capital Business Support position ensures administrative compliance and provides advice and support to line managers and ensures they have accurate and timely information in order to make effective decisions to ensure the network operates efficiently. Developing organisational capability by developing and driving knowledge and decision-making and ensuring consistency. This role is a generalist role which includes but is not limited to responsibilities of recruitment, training and development, employment relations together with a strong administration focus.

    Requirements

    Responsibilities: This role takes responsibility for a generalist function within the Human Capital team

     

    Recruitment:

    Attraction:

    • Builds applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, universities and providing network information and opportunities.
    • The posting and updating of job vacancies on the website and various job board portals.
    • Networking with various stakeholders and to ensure an ongoing pipeline of potential referral candidates.

    Shortlist and screening:

    • Determines applicant requirements by carefully studying the current job description
    • Thorough screening and shortlisting of CVs according to the requirements of the job whilst ensuring ongoing feedback to candidates
    • Telephonic and initial Video upload screening of applicants to ensure they meet the requirements of the job, SPARK cultural fit and GEMS.
    • Submission and coordination/marking of benchmark Subject Knowledge Tests

    Coordination of review and assessment of Video upload interviews

    • Coordination of review and assessment of lesson demonstration and interview Videos with Line Managers and relevant panel members.

    Administration

    • Ongoing communication of feedback to candidates including confirmation of unsuccessful applications. Make recommendations to applicants and relevant Line Managers with regards to location, job role, start date and salary.
    • Keep record of all recruitment data as per company recruitment policy and procedures.
    • Conducting fingerprints and criminal clearances with shortlisted candidates
    • Follow procedure of informing Line Manager and Human Capital Department of new employee start date.
    • Coordinate background checks including but not limited to; qualification and police clearance. Coordinate psychometric assessments should this be required for a specific vacancy.

    Internal recruitment facilitation

    • Ensures the standards of internal recruitment are met in order to provide a fair and consistent process to identify suitable and high performing individuals. Give constructive feedback regarding growth opportunities for candidates who do not meet the requirements for promotions and internal transfers.

    Reporting

    • Ongoing reporting of relevant data as per network objectives.

    Updates job knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organisations. Clear understanding of SPARK Schools Recruitment and Selection Policy.

    Recruitment training

    • Assist in training of school leaders on recruitment skills such as
    • CV screening
    • Candidate shortlisting
    • Competency based/targeted selection interviewing
    • Questioning techniques
    • Candidate evaluation and selection avoiding unconscious bias
    • Ensuring schools complete training registers and submit completed training records to the Talent manager

    Administration, Data and Reporting:

    • Filing - physical and electronic as per requirements of Department of Employment and Labour
    • Ensure, monitor and verify compliance with labour law in terms of documentation
    • Prepare ER and/or IR related documents on an ad hoc basis
    • Take responsibility for all documentation in place and ensure it holds up to legal scrutiny
    • Escalate concerns of potential risk to ensure that the interests of the company are protected

    Qualifications and Criteria:

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and criteria:

    • Completed relevant degree in a Human Resources / Labour Relations
      • 3 years Human Capital and Recruitment experience essential (two years’ recruitment experience)
      • Subject matter knowledge and application (Recruitment and selection)
      • Must be trained and able to conduct Integrity Clearances through MIE including criminal clearances through Afiswitch.
      • Knowledge of Recruitment ATS/Applicant Tracking Systems such as Workable, Greenhouse, Taleo etc.
      Travel requirements: Travel may be required on an ad hoc basis between primary location and SPARK schools.
