    Peer Coordinator - Port Elizabeth

    About the Job

    Purpose of the position:

    • In addition to all the responsibilities of a peer educator, to coordinate peer educators in providing a comprehensive mobile and fixed site wellness service, primarily to people who inject drugs (PWID). This involves ensuring that peer educator work schedules are organized, monitoring peer performance of duties, and ensuring that peer reporting is consistent.

    Minimum Requirements

    • High school education
    • +One-month related training
    • Previous experience as a peer educator or outreach worker
    • Proficiency in isiXhosa/ English and another South African language
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Coordinate peers working on outreach programmes and at the drop-in centre (DIC), under supervision of the PWID Project Coordinator
    • Conduct outreach activities with the mobile unit
    • Adhere to all relevant standard operating procedures, policies, and standards
    • Engage with PWID community, including attendance of and participation in community advisory group (CAG) meetings
    • Participate and assist in organising in PWID/PWUD support meetings, community advisory group meetings and structures as directed by PNC and project coordinator
    • Support project advocacy initiatives

    Social Worker_Sex Work Programme - KwaZulu-Natal

    About the Job

    Purpose of the position:

    • To provide professional and holistic social work services by assessing the needs of sex workers and implementing interventions and processes to meet their needs.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Social Work or B Social Science Degree from four-year College or university
    • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience within key populations
    • SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions) registration
    • Computer literate in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Proficiency in English and IsiSwati languages
    • Valid code 8 driver’s licence

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provides psychosocial support and counselling services to sex workers
    • Provides individual and group counselling to the families of sex workers
    • Coordinates closely with Case Manager and provide holistic support
    • Facilitates harm reduction group session, individual sessions and family co-joint
    • Educates clients and their families on harm reduction and related issues
    • Follows up on referrals with regards to psychosocial and emotional needs of clients
    • Networks with all relevant stakeholders and implement an effective referral system
    • Provide treatment adherence for sex workers
    • Designs training modules
    • Record and maintain accurate and detailed client information and interventions
    • Monthly reporting
    • Links clients to housing, shelters, safe spaces and other government facilities

    Peer Educator - Port Elizabeth,

    About the Job

    Purpose of the position:

    • To conduct out-reach activities in the PWID community by providing current accurate health information, mobilisation of PWID’s to the mobile unit, and linkage to care.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 10
    • Peer educators should be ex or current people who have used or injected drugs as they are a ‘peer’ and have therefore experienced the context, and challenges faced by PWID/PWUD
    • Minimum 1 years’ work experience in the PWID Community or experience as a peer educator
    • Able to read and write legibly in English
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform place-based outreach based on the micro planning methodology to PWID/PWUD, their partners and stakeholders in the area
    • Distribution of harm reduction packs and safer sex commodities
    • Provide accurate health information to PWID/PWUD on harm reduction and safe injecting practices, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, TB, SRH and human rights
    • Promote healthy behaviour change.
    • Refer PWID/PWUD living with HIV or TB for treatment to the SR nurse or nearest health facility
    • Ensure HIV negative PWID/PWUD are regularly tested
    • Provide and promote psychological support, referral to SR Social Auxiliary Worker (SAW) and follow-up
