    Lecturer: Counselling Psychology

    Department Description        

    • The Psychology Department at Wits is large and vibrant, with a strong research and professional-training reputation.  We are currently advertising 1 counselling psychology post in the department.

    Brief Description        

    Requirements: 

    • PhD degree in Counselling Psychology or cognate field in Psychology
    • Masters degree in Counselling Psychology.

    Lecturer.2.01- Wits Mining Institute

    Brief Description        

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    • Applicants with a combination of the following qualities, experience, qualifications, and skills may be considered for the position of Programme Co Lead: a PhD in Information Management Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering, Mining Engineering (with a digital/automation focus), Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Physics, Computational Geosciences, or any other related field aligned to digital mining, automation, advanced technologies, or real time information systems.

    The candidates must have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • The successful candidate for the Programme Co Lead position will support the broader activities of the Innovation and Technology Acceleration Programme, as well as project specific activities, including those of the Real time Information Management Systems (RTIMS) Centre.
    • The role will involve contributing to teaching, conducting high quality research, supervising Masters and Doctoral students, and supporting both programme level and project level implementation. The Programme Co lead will be expected to work collaboratively with other Programme Leads across the Institute, as well as with Researchers, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Doctoral and Masters students. Specific responsibilities will include:
    • Co lead the Innovation and Technology Acceleration Programme and lead RTIMS activities, including programme planning, coordination, and delivery of research initiatives. Ensure alignment with WMI’s strategic objectives and the MMP’s KPIs, while upholding the research, operational, and ethical integrity of all programme and Centre activities.
    • Conduct and supervise high quality applied research in mining digitalisation, automation, information systems, AI, and related technologies. Contribute to teaching, develop postgraduate talent, and support research excellence that enhances WMI’s research environment while advancing applied research to meet MMP priorities.
    • Contribute to WMI’s fundraising and sustainability efforts by identifying funding opportunities, preparing funding proposals and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to secure resources for WMI programmes and initiatives.
    • Lead contract research projects working with partners and clients, and managing the delivery of contract research projects.
    • Lead or contribute to the development of pilot labs, testbeds, technology demonstrations, real time information systems research, and future of mining technology foresight. Ensure integration of innovation into skills development, postgraduate training, and research translation.
    • Support, mentor, and supervise Researchers, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Master’s and Doctoral students. Foster a high performing research environment and contribute to professional development activities, including collaboration with Wits faculties, partner universities, and HDEI institutions.
    • Support the management of RTIMS operations, infrastructure, personnel, and resources. Oversee staff, students, and visitors engaged in the Centre’s  work. Ensure effective reporting, including budget, infrastructure, and progress reports aligned with MMP requirements and WMI’s strategic vision.
    • Engage with industry, technology developers, research partners, and external stakeholders to strengthen WMI’s innovation ecosystem; support fundraising and resource mobilisation efforts; and represent the programme and RTIMS in internal and external fora, meetings, and collaborations.
    • Produce high quality research outputs, reports, publications, and knowledge products. Lead or co author accredited journal publications and contribute insights from mining innovation to continental initiatives, including WMI’s continental hub activities.

    Post-Doctoral Fellowship

    Brief Description        

    • A postdoctoral fellowship is available for research in the area of evolutionary and population genetics. The work would involve an analysis of existing and novel African genomic datasets (WGS and genotype array) for identifying signatures of selection and modelling demographic history.
    • The appointed candidate will also have the opportunity to participate/collaborate in a suite of research projects available at the SBIMB and interact with the Institute's six senior scientists to develop new research projects/grant applications.
    • The Fellowship support is for two years, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding.

    Eligibility

    • Education: A PhD in Population Genetics, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or Molecular Biology, obtained within the last 3 years.

    Department Description:

    • The University of the Witwatersrand Law Clinic invites applications for two positions in the fields of labour law and delict to supervise final year Wits Law students in assisting clients and to manage the delict and labour  units in the Wits Law Clinic.
    • The University of the Witwatersrand Law Clinic is a leading teaching and pro bono law clinic based in the School of Law. The Law Clinic has been operating for over 50 years and is presently the largest South African law clinic.

    Head of Division: Research Development

    Position overview

    • Applications are invited for the position of Research Head in the School of Oral Health Sciences.  The Research Head will provide strategic leadership for the School's research portfolio, working closely with the Head of School and in collaboration with the Assistant Dean: Research to support the achievement of the School's research objectives.
    • The incumbent will drive research excellence, strengthen collaborations, increase research outputs and funding, and advance research across clinical, biomedical, translational, materials science, and population oral health domains.

    Brief Description

    Minimum requirements

    • South African Citizens or Permanent Residence with a relevant doctoral qualification, preferably a PhD or equivalent research doctorate in oral health sciences or any closely related health field.
    • Research experience of at least 5 years, or a scholarly profile demonstrably commensurate with appointment at this level.

    • The appointee will provide strategic direction to the Department, advance nursing education, research and innovation, develop the next generation of nursing practitioners, educators and researchers, and build collaborative relationships with the Gauteng Department of Health and other key stakeholders to advance the department's academic and professional mission.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in Nursing or a related discipline.
    • An established record of scholarship, including research publications and postgraduate supervision, appropriate for appointment to the professoriate at the level of Adjunct Professor, Associate Professor or Professor.(Promotion Criteria.pdf)
    • A proven track record of teaching, research and academic leadership within a higher education environment.

    Professional Registration

    • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Nurse Educator
    • Registered as a constituent Assessor and Moderator with the SANC and/or a recognised Quality Council
    • A recognised Nursing Management qualification registered with the SANC, or an equivalent management qualification acceptable under the applicable SANC requirements

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

    • At least five (5) years' experience in a senior leadership or management position, with experience in leading academic programmes, nursing education or research programmes, preferably within a higher education environment.
    • Demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, governance, financial and human resource management.

    Applicants must provide evidence of the following requirements:

    • A minimum of an MSc degree in Geology, Economic Geology, Geosciences, or a closely related field; a PhD in Geosciences would be advantageous but not required.
    • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the mining and/or mineral exploration industry, with demonstrable multi-commodity expertise (e.g., precious metals, base metals, platinum group elements, battery metals, iron ore, or other commodities).
    • A strong track record of responsibility in geological roles, including experience at a senior or leadership level.
    • Experience working across multiple geological terranes, deposit types, and stages of the mining/exploration value chain (e.g., greenfields exploration, brownfields exploration, resource definition, mining geology, and/or geometallurgy).
    • Candidates will not be expected to have extensive evidence of research output (peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, etc.) or an extensive postgraduate training record, although such a record will be advantageous; a clear commitment to developing these portfolios is expected.
    • Demonstrated experience in mentoring or training within industry or academic settings will be advantageous.

    Competencies for this position include:
