    Academic Coordinator

    Responsibilities

    • Oversight of the academic content and structure of the honours programme in the Wits SPH.
    • Overall academic coordination of the undergraduate BHSc HSS and the Honours programme
    • Lead and participate in curriculum development and review following university processes
    • Coordinate academic inputs with relevant SPH and university stakeholders
    • Develop content (for both online and face-to-face components), teach and assess courses in area of expertise on the BHSc HSS and Honours programme.
    • Coordinate research and supervise honours students within the Wits SPH.
    • Conduct research contributing to the Wits SPH research portfolio (higher education scholarship encouraged).

    Requirements

    • Excellent coordination and documentation skills
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in public health or a related field. 
    • Teaching experience required.
    • Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Interest in and commitment to student-centred teaching and learning
    • Experience in student supervision will be an advantage
    • Experience in facilitating blended or online learning will be an advantage
    • Publication in a peer-reviewed journal will be an advantage

    Qualifications
    At least a master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or any related field.

    Lecturer

    Criteria:
    Qualifications:

    For appointment at the Lecturer level, a PhD or substantial progress and evidence of teaching and research are required.
    Applicants would be expected to submit their PhDs for examination within three years of appointment.

    Experience:

    • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, in one or more of the following areas of art historical and/or curating and/or heritage studies:
    • Historical and contemporary artistic practice of South Africa, African and its diaspora contexts and networks;
    • Knowledge of the disciplines of art history, curatorial practice or  heritage studies

    Multidisciplinary and multimodal approaches

    • Postgraduate supervision
    • Excellent track record of conventional and/or creative research outcomes in the areas of art historical and/or curating and/or heritage studies

     
    Skills and Attributes:
    A commitment to  transformative pedagogies, curriculum development, and transformation within the humanities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Developing, teaching and coordinating courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate programme
    • Supervising postgraduate students at Honours, Masters and PhD level
    • Contributing to the development and management of the research fieldwork programme
    • Contributing to the work of the Department and the School as a whole, such as actively engaging in committee workContributing to fundraising strategies for the Department

     
    The position is available immediately. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on published WITS pay scales.

    School Administrative Manager

    Key job functions include but are not limited to:

    •  Financial management and administration
    •  Managing the academic administrative functions of the School
    •  Personnel administration
    •  Managing and mentoring support and technical staff
    •  General administrative functions

    Qualifications/requirements/criteria:

    •  Degree or National Diploma in administration or finance
    •  At least 3-4 years’ relevant and appropriate experience in a similar position
    •  Knowledge of financial procedures, e.g. budgeting, variance reporting, preparing and interpreting income and expenditure statements, etc.
    •  Mentoring and supervising administrative staff and writing job descriptions
    •  Sound organizational skills
    •  Above-average level of computer literacy required (MSOffice Suite, E-mail, Internet, WAMS and Oracle)
    •  Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills for dealing with staff, students and the public
    •  Ability to work independently as well as lead and be part of a team
    •  Ability to work under pressure.
    •  Knowledge of Faculty rules and regulations will be an advantage
    •  Knowledge of the University environment and its various Schools/departments is desirable and will be an advantage 
    •  Experience in procurement and management of sessional staff appointments would be an advantage

    Head Of School

    QUALIFICATIONS:
     The suitable candidate will be a senior scholar with a first degree in chemical or metallurgical, together with a PhD degree.  A strong academic track record of teaching, post-graduate supervision and research is required.  A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a leadership position in higher education, research, or other context relevant to the school will be beneficial, as will industrial experience.

    DUTIES:
     The Head of School provides the academic leadership and vision needed to enable the school to advance its position of excellence.  He/She sets and leads, in consultation with staff and stakeholders, the direction of the school within the wider mission of the Faculty and University and manages the school to achieve its strategic goals.  The Head of School will be responsible for the management and administration of the school, and be required to engage actively in fundraising for the school.  He/She will be expected to manage and build relations with the academic community, industry and civil society to facilitate continual development on matters relating to the school.
