    Senior Project Designer - Midrand

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • A Project Designer will normally be assigned to a section of a Project.  For the assigned section of the Project, duties and responsibilities will include the following:
    • Execution of assigned work in accordance with the applicable Project Procedures and Standards, within the manhour and cost budgets and the project schedule targets.
    • Coordination and liaison with the project engineers assigned to the applicable project.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Creating Intelligent flowsheets on Smartplant P&ID.
    • Be responsible for correctness of data, as captured in the P&ID system.
    • Be familiar with the contents of the Department Quality Plan and perform tasks required by that plan.
    • Ensure all Client standards and practices required for draughting of the flowsheets and as described in the Work Scope are adhered to.
    • Develop the project flowsheet design through the issue of creation of MFD’s and Line Lists
    • Be familiar with the requirements of the project schedule 
    • Know and understand schedule milestones.
    • Assist with the development of project specific procedures as appropriate to document current work practices and improve draugting performance.
    • Know how to use, navigate and interrogate the SPID system using the assigned software. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Smarplnat P&ID Experience

    Project Manager - Pietersburg

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Identify and communicate the objectives for the project team in accordance with the contract terms, scope of work and corporate policy.
    • Communicate these objectives to the project team, Departmental Managers, and Client.
    • Organise the project team in consultation with Departmental Managers and agree the   assignment of all key personnel.
    • Motivate the project team towards the determined objectives, by generating enthusiasm for the project, and by maintaining continued personal interest in achieving set targets.
    • Achieve scheduled performance, cost, quality, health, safety and environmental requirements of the project from contract award to Client's acceptance.
    • Ensure that designated systems are adopted by the project team as soon as possible, after contract award.
    • Negotiate all contract changes with the Client.
    • Act as primary contact and maintain satisfactory relations with the Client.
    • Ensure that the requirements of secrecy agreements are strictly observed.
    • For Project Directors and Senior Project Managers only, deputise when requested for the Manager Operations.

    • Review Project Control documents at least monthly including, as appropriate:
    • SMILE Exception/Summary Reports (or manual Material Progress Schedule reports)
    • Front End Schedule
    • All Exception Reports eg. Planning, Document Control, Subcontracts, Construction Contracts.
    • Functional Progress Reports 
    • Document Registers
    • Manpower Projection Plan
    • Contract Change Register
    • Construction Contract Schedule
    • Field Construction Plan
    • Cost Reports

    • Review Inspection and Expediting Reports
    • Lead problem solving sessions at all stages of the project, using Continuous Improvement procedures where appropriate.
    • Maintain cost awareness by all project personnel throughout all phases of project execution.
    • Regularly visit the Construction Site as part of the Project Management effort and also other work locations including, as appropriate:-
    • Engineering Centres, if applicable
    • Engineering Sub-contractors' offices 
    • Fabricators' and Suppliers' Works

    • Prepare the Project Manager's Report and critically review other inputs to the Monthly Progress Report, ensuring that the report is issued in a timely manner by the date specified for the Contract.

    Senior Instrument Engineer - Midrand

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Deputise for the Principal Instrument Engineer when requested.
    • Responsible for the design and approval of all Instrument work on assigned projects.
    • Responsible for preparation and approval of project related standards and job notes.
    • Ensure that engineering activities on assigned projects are executed within budgeted manhours and approved schedules in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with procedures and the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa.
    • Review and approve project schedules with the Project Engineer to see that all dates, rates of progress and design periods are realistic.
    • Prepare and approve project specific standards and  specifications
    • Reflect instrument requirements on project MFD’s / P&ID’s utilising ISA standards and symbology.
    • Prepare a project instrument index reflecting all instrumentation requirements inclusive of instrument type selection compliant to process criteria.
    • Prepare requisition index for Instrument work, indicating planned issue date for each requisition. Update and re-issue monthly.
    • Check and approve the drawing index for Instrument drawings.
    • Prepare and approve general notes requisitions for Instrumentation.
    • Design and requisition Instrumentation. This includes instrument size and protection methodology calculations and verification checks.
    • Assist the designers with the preparation of Instrument drawings.
    • Review and approve all Instrument drawings and ensure that the quality of design and drawings produced for enquiry and fabrication purposes is of satisfactory standard.
    • Prepare technical bid analysis for Instrumentation.
    • Attend coordination meetings and engineering review meetings with supplier as required.
    • Review document requirements and issue dates for major equipment with suppliers and assist Procurement Department in compiling a Supplier’s Document Index.
    • Assist Procurement Department with the expediting of supplier documents.
    • Review and approve supplier documents for Instrumentation and distribute.
    • Review in conjunction with Procurement Department all claims by supplier for an increase in the engineering scope of work.
    • Give guidance to client, project engineers, other specialist engineers and inspectors on Instrument engineering matters. Review Instrument aspects of package unit supplier’s drawings as requested by the engineer responsible for the equipment.
    • Ensure that Instrument engineering operations are complete in accordance with the approved project schedule and within allocated manhours.
    • Advise the Chief  Instrument Engineer of any slippages and their causes and proposed corrective action.
    • Advise the Chief Instrument Engineer of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups. 
    • Develop and approve control/safety system (ie DCS, ESD, etc) requirements and philosophies including generating contract requiistions.
    • Attend and and co-ordinate system FAT/SAT's. 
    • Co-ordinate with Procurement Department and ensure certified drawings are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.
    • Notify the Project Engineer of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.
    • Provide progress report information, at the required frequency and with the required content, to the Project Engineer.
    • Provide information where necessary to estimating the cost of contract changes, Alert the Project Engineer / Project Manager to circumstances considered to be subject to contract change. 
    • Follow up Instrumentation construction work on project sites to ensure correct interpretation of designs regarding installation.
    • Keep abreast of development in the Instrument engineering field.
    • Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects.
    • Assist where necessary in the compilation of operating manuals and mechanical catalogues.
    • Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Chief  Instrument Engineer.

    Qualifications: 

    • BSc, BEng or BTech/ NDip with equivalent experience
    • In-Tools 6.0 or Higher

    • Produce hand sketches of earthing philosophy diagrams, based on engineering input for drafting by CAD Operator.
    • Using the instrument database and project specifications / standards, produce guidelines for the instrument hook-up drawings which are then generated by CAD Operator.
    • Using the instrument database and project specifications / standards, produce guidelines for the instrument installation detail drawings.
    • Produce instrument location drawings based on the instrument database, EFD’s and plant layout drawings.
    • Develop / provide input on the 3D Model to clarify instrument requirements on the model inclusive of cable racking, junction boxes, air headers and field instrument placements.
    • Produce instrument loop diagrams and termination schedules utilising the In-Tools database.
    • Produce hand drawn power distribution diagrams for back drafting by CAD Operator.
    • Provide hand drawn mark-ups for CAD Operator to generate panel layout detail drawings.
    • Incorporate instrument supplier data received into instrument design database, termination schedules and loop diagrams.
    • Provide mark-ups on mechanical / instrumentation interface drawings for back drafting.
    • Provide mark-ups on electrical / instrumentation interface drawings for back drafting.
    • Maintain the instrument design database and drawing register in a current project state.
    • Produce enquiry requisitions for instrument cable and junction boxes.
    • Assist in the preparation of the Instrument contract indirect BOM.
    • Perform equipment, panel and cable inspections.
    • Liaise with engineers to ensure design intent is implemented.
    • Liaise closely with CAD Operator for the creation and validation of instrument design drawings.
    • Resolve site queries relative to the instrument design, obtain redline markups and backdraft documents to As-built status.
    • Assist in the preparation of Instrument ‘End of Job’ documentation.
    • Perform any other duties assigned within reason by the Principle Instrument Designer / Chief Instrument Engineer.
