Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
• N6 on Water and Wastewater Treatment processes/ Water Care/National Diploma in Analytical Chemist or Equivalent
• Code 8 driving License.
• 2 – 3 years' experience in Waste water treatment/Waste water Treatment Works or in Laboratory Services.
• Valid Operator's Certificate from the department of Water and Sanitation, Class IV will be an added advantage.
• Physically fit, Sober Habits, Good communication skills in at least Two of the Three official languages in the Eastern Cape, report writing and presentation skills, must be willing to work shifts.

Key Performance Areas:

• Collecting and analysing of water samples and ensure that deviations are addressed accordingly.
• Opening/Closing valves to specific limits to control levels and regulate flow from/to storage units.
• Reporting outcomes and proceedings with corrective measures, adjusting mechanical controls settings and regulate chemical levels to required dosing rate.
• attending the first line maintenance of pumps and machinery (i.e. greasing, cleaning, transmitting valves, minor maintenance work, etc).
• Report to immediate supervisor on plant conditions.
• Ensuring proper housekeeping and follow the required OHS acts.
• Follow instructions given by his/her immediate supervisor.
• Special Conditions: Required to work in all weather conditions and outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.

Minimum Requirements:

• Passed Std 07/Grade 08 with Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing.
• 2-3 years post-qualification experience in municipal or industrial water distribution systems.
• Valid Code C1 (or Code 8/EB) Driver's License.

Skills & Competencies:

• Knowledge of trenching, pipe-fitting, pressure-reducing valves (PRVs), and bulk infrastructure.
• Ability to read utility maps, GIS layers, or reticulation engineering drawings.
• Good physical condition to operate heavy machinery (e.g., high-pressure pumps, pipe cutters).
• Strong problem-solving abilities and communication skills.

Special Working Conditions

• Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Required to perform standby duties, overtime, and attend to emergency after-hours pipe bursts.

Job Purpose:

• To perform technical duties related to the installation, maintenance, repair, and fault finding of bulk water pipelines, municipal distribution reticulation networks, water meters, and pressure control systems. This role ensures uninterrupted water supply compliance with municipal service delivery standards and safety regulations.

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

• Reticulation Maintenance & Repairs: Diagnose, locate, and repair burst main lines, bulk supply pipes, leaking valves, and hydrants. Isolate main distribution lines using proper valve sequences to minimize local water disruptions.
• Meter Infrastructure Management: Install, replace, and calibrate domestic and bulk water meters. Test for underground leaks and carry out consumption-pattern investigations.
• New Installations: Lay, align, and join underground water pipes (HDPE, PVC, Ductile Iron) using mechanical couplings, electrofusion, or butt-welding.
• Site Supervision & Logistical Support: Supervise handyman/labourer crew activities on-site, ensuring proper usage of tools, safety equipment, and vehicles. Read and interpret underground pipe layout diagrams and schematics.
• Compliance & Reporting: Complete daily job cards, material request forms, site vehicle inspection checklists, and water loss field reports. Strictly adhere to local government safety policies and the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Act
