    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To provide a reliable and courteous transportation service with safety as a top priority.

    Chemist (XRF-LECO)

    Job Description

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Chemist in XRF section has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel.

    RESPONISIBILITIES

    • Must be able to record, evaluate and validate all data on XRF and LECO
    • Must be conversant with report writing.
    • Responsible for all daily document requirements and the distribution to the different departments.
    • Responsible for the monthly time sheet accounting.
    • Routinely provide training to operators.
    • Completes tasks within the allocated time and plans work for operators to ensure that overall service goals of the laboratory are met.
    • Responsibility to performs routine and non-routine Analytical operation on XRF spectrometer if and as required.
    • Responsible for the supervision of all XRF- LECO analysis and reporting of results.
    • Responsibility to ensure turnaround time is adhered to at all times, for work specified in regard to XRF- LECO analysis.
    • Responsibility to draw up weekly status & production report with regard to internal analysis
    • Responsibility, under the guidance of Section Manager, to validate any new methods or modifications made for XRF-LECO analysis.
    • Competent in the use of the LIMS.
    • Must be able to do troubleshooting on instrument and methods used.
    • Must know how to verify calibration standards / quality control standards / verification standards and Certified Reference Materials (CRM’s).
    • Managing Good Laboratory Practice.
    • Must be able to help with the preparation of SANAS audits.
    • Managing laboratory documentation.
    • Responsibility to bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Section Manager.
    • Responsibility to ensure housekeeping in the XRF-LECO area is kept up to standard.
    • Responsibility to record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration and verification of instruments performed.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

    SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES

    • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
    • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
    • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • BSc Chemistry or National Diploma Analytical Chemistry
    • Matric, with Maths and Science Qualification

    Experience

    • At least 2 years in XRF-LECO field.
    • At least 2 years supervisory experience

    Competencies

    • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
    • Operational experience in a SANAS 17025 accredited facility
    • LIMS administration and operation
    • Experience in instrumentation, data collection and reporting

    Job Description

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To assist the Manager of the Geochem Admin Department to effectively overseeing the Administrative functions of the division as well as maintaining customer communication.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Printing and e-mailing of test reports
    • Invoicing completed work as per agreed rates
    • Assist department with general administrative tasks (filing, copying, creating customized reporting templates, reconciliations, updating spreadsheets)
    • Assist department with maintaining a current status of outstanding work as well as following up with the lab regarding expected reporting dates
    • Assist Section Manger with contract review and issues of proposals
    • Assist with and co-ordinate customer enquiries/queries. 
    • Data entry of results into SLIM G6 where necessary
    • General Laboratory duties as required and within qualifications
    • Maintain a clean working environment
    • Complies with health and safety regulations.
    • Keep relevant communications confidential
    • Complies and conforms to the laboratory quality management system (ISO17025 and SANAS)

    Qualifications

    • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry will be an advantage

    Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an administrative position
    • Computer Literate (Microsoft Office)
    • Laboratory background be an advantage
