    Personal Assistant (Grade 10), Corporate Services Division

    The Competition Commission is looking to appoint an executive Personal Assistant for our Corporate Services Division.

    A starting annual total cost to company package of R588 660.41(negotiable commensurate with experience)

    Please note that this position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable

    If you are energetic, have an aptitude for providing personal and administrative support to the Divisional Manager in ensuring the effective and efficient running of the Corporate Services Division, then the Competition Commission invites you to apply for this challenging opportunity.

    Minimum Requirements

    We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking, and committed individual who meets the following requirements:

    • Matric, plus a 3-year National Diploma in Administration, Office Management or equivalent qualification.
    • 3 years proven secretarial and office experience at an executive level
    • Must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team with minimum supervision.
    • Be able to work under pressure and have a strong administrative background.
    • Good organisational skills and abilities.
    • Computer literacy, effective communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary requirements.  
    • When required, available and willing to work flexible  hours, including extra and/or irregular hours.

    Key Accountabilities

    The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

    Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the Personal Assistant duties include, amongst others

    • To administer the office of the Divisional Manager
    • Deal with stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Attend to telephone enquiries, emailing, copying, and dispatching of correspondence & documents and the proper recording of these in appropriate registers.
    • Convene various meetings on behalf of the Divisional Manager with internal & external stakeholders.
    • Coordinate the Divisional Manager’s schedule & keep him/her informed of diary commitments.
    • Identify urgent matters that need to be brought to the attention of the Divisional Manager and track deadlines.
    • Arrange local & overseas travel for the Divisional Manager
    • Assist with the arrangements for the attendance of conferences by Divisional Manager.
    • Prepare all meeting documentation and presentations for the Divisional Manager
    • Prepare reporting documentation for all governance meetings on a monthly and quarterly basis.
    • Coordinate the receipt and consolidation of reports from all units of the Divisions in line with stipulated deadlines.
    • Interact with other divisions in relation to document management and administration.
    • Manage the annual budget of the division and provide the Divisional Manager with monthly reports on expenditure and budget management.
    • Assist the Divisional Manager in compliance/adherence to the relevant policies and procedures of the Competition Commission, i.e. performance management timelines, leave and supply chain management processes.
    • Take minutes at meetings and follow up on decisions to be implemented.

    Economist, Economic Research Bureau Division (Grade 7)

    Skills and Experience

    We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements:

    • Applicants MUST have a Masters degree in Economics.
    • Training and experience in Microeconomics, Econometrics, Industrial Organization and/or International Trade is considered to be advantageous.
    • Strong analytical skills are essential.
    • Minimum of 4 - 6 years work experience in a rigorous economic analysis environment.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the purpose and objectives of the Competition Act, the Competition Commission and the South African economy is highly recommended.

    Other considerations:

    • Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.

    • Assist with the rigorous economic analysis of competition cases.
    • Contribute to the provision of the theoretical and intellectual platform for the effective implementation of the Competition Act.
    • Advise other divisions with regard to economic underpinnings of competition issues.
