    Occupational Health and Safety Officer: Occupational Health and Safety,

    Job Purpose The Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to ensure compliance at the office of the District Roads Engineer Oudtshoorn in accordance with the conditions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. This post is based in Oudtshoorn.

    Minimum Requirements An appropriate 3-year tertiary qualification (National Diploma/B-Degree) or higher qualification; A minimum of 1 year relevant experience; Compulsory registration with SACPCMP as an Occupational Health and Safety Officer; A valid driving licence (Code B).

    Recommendation Occupational Health and Safety working experience.

    Key Performance Areas Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act within the component; Ensure the reduction of the severity or seriousness of possible injuries; Create awareness and ensure health and safety plans are in place; Provide an administrative function with regards to occupational health and safety.

    Competencies Knowledge of the following: Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations (Act 85 of 1993); Routine Road Maintenance activities; Contract Administration; Legislation pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, Environment Conservation Act; Road Ordinance Act; South African Road Traffic Signs Manual; Operation of road maintenance and road construction machinery and equipment; Written and verbal communication skills; Interpretation of Acts, regulations, specifications and conditions pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety; Proven computer literacy (MS Office); Problem solving skills; Conflict management.

    Remuneration R 316 791 per annum (Salary Level 8) Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
