    PURPOSE:

    • To ensure and implement Business Unit specific operational survey requirements with regards to volumetric, directional guidance, mine layouts and statutory mine plans in terms of Mine Health and Safety Act.

    Engineer, Mine Design - Lephalale

    PURPOSE:

    • To provide operational and tactical inputs to the Mining process through capturing operational standards, monitoring and tracking standards and the execution thereof and ensuring the accuracy of information as input to the optimization process.  To deliver medium- term mine design, activity planning and continuously design out mining challenges

    MAJOR CHALLENGES:

    • Working in a project matrix organisation with multiple reporting lines.
    • Individual development.
    • Contractor's Management.

    Minimum Requirements    
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BEng Mining Engineering (Essential/Minimum or)
    • BSc Mining Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
    • Diploma Project Management (Recommended/Desirable)
    • Certificate Blasting For Fiery Mines (Essential/Minimum)
    • Certificate First Line Management (Recommended/Desirable)

    EXPERIENCE: 

    • 4 years Relevant experience within a mining engineering environment   (Essential/Minimum)    Operational

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Engineering Council of SA (Candidate) (Recommended/Desirable)

    Duties & Responsibilities    
    Compliance, Governance and Assurance    

    • Execution of controls to ensure governance and legal compliance within the mine modelling environment related to resource management and reserve classification
    • Recognise, understand and manage risks that can impact on the outputs of own job and the section
    • Support development of effective methodology of business ops/communications/control to achieve statutory compliance/ appropriate risk mitigation
    • Ensure compliance to sound engineering standards to quality
    • Develop operating procedures to align with business objectives
    • Create awareness for SHEC practices

    Customer and Client Relationship Management    

    • Support core business by ensuring appropriate stakeholder relationships toward enhancing effective mine designs for scheduling and execution
    • Manage internal and external relations, including interface with external providers or other functions responsible to ensure that business needs are met, and clients are satisfied
    • Provide relevant support and legislative service to applicable stakeholders

    Effective People Management

    Financial Support Services    

    • Manage own cost recovery to be aligned with departmental targets

    Mining Process Development    

    • Provide operational assurance in standards followed throughout Mining process
    • Influence Tactical level with 3-to-18-month design horizon
    • Guide and advise de-bushing and top-soil management
    • Execute medium and long-term backfill design, block planning and volume calculations
    • Interpret and convert designs for scheduling and prepare high precision construction designs, merging the medium-term designs to long term designs
    • Design for practical inclusion of required services, ramps & roads , green areas, sump & water management, infrastructure such as pit power and the positions of relocation in a sequential and timeous manner
    • Design for practical implementation of projects linking to the latest pit positions and status
    • Reconcile short and medium-term designs to continuously be in line with the LOM designs
    • Report on layout and design processes
    • Focus and ensure the integrity of data captured in the Mining process/database
    • Monitor trends relating to Mining standards in order to provide the basis for optimization
    • Adhere to Mining Development Budget regarding support services and project management

    Project Management and Continuous Improvement    

    • Capital and cost management of specified projects
    • Identify and rank initiatives
    • Execution of projects
