    Lecturer: Veterinary/Nursing Elective Practice Programme Coordinator, Dean's Office

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

    Programme Administration

    • Organises and oversees the Veterinary/Nursing Elective Practice module as a veterinary academic coordinator.
    • Monitor and evaluate students placed in veterinary practices, clinics, or community-based learning sites for their extramural training.
    • Ensures compliance with Faculty, University, and regulatory requirements of the BVSc and BVN syllabus.

    Student Support

    • Provide a guidance document for students entering into elective practice areas aligned with the areas indicated in the study guides.
    • Provides mentorship and ensures students meet Day 1 competency skills expected of a new veterinary graduate.
    • Monitors student progress and evaluates performance reports from extramural practical rotations, and flags concerns for remedial action.

    Community & Practice Liaison

    • Acts as the link between the university and external veterinary practices.
    • Builds partnerships with clinics, farms, and community organisations to maintain a list of practices willing to assist with extramural training.
    • Develop a system of internal accreditation and evaluation of practices, including training of practice staff in evaluation practices.
    • Undertake random screening of practices, based on budgetary restrictions, to evaluate students active within said practices.

    Quality Assurance

    • Ensures that the practical experiences students gain are relevant to Day One skills, and if not, applies corrective action.
    • Reviews and updates elective practice guidelines to maintain academic standards.
    • Collects feedback from students and partner practices to improve the programme. 

    Clinical Support

    • Undertake a limited number of weeks of clinical activities at the OVAH, preferably in the community clinics, to ensure clinical skills remain relevant for the evaluation of extra-mural activities. 

    Academic & Research Engagement

    • Network with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
    • Deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, and assessments.
    • Support curriculum development and improvement.
    • Actively participate in faculty research programmes and service-rendering activities.
    • Publish research in national and international journals.
    • Undertake faculty administrative duties as delegated by the line manager.
    • Engage in community outreach activities.
    • Pursue academic self-development appropriate to career progression.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A BVSc or BVMCh degree or an equivalent veterinary qualification; 
    • Registration (or registrable) as a Veterinarian with SAVC; and
    • Demonstrate the potential to become a competent lecturer at the undergraduate level.

    Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor - Department of Civil Engineering (Transportation Engineering) (Re-Advertisement

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    It will be expected of the successful candidates to:

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Department;
    • Supervise final year undergraduate project students and postgraduate Honours, Masters and PhD students;
    • Conduct research as a member of the transportation research group in the Department and publish in leading accredited journals;

    Senior Lecturer:

    • A Masters’ degree in Civil Engineering that follows on the previous qualification, plus
    • A PhD degree in Civil Engineering in the field of Transportation Engineering;
    • At least three years tertiary education experience or three years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
    • At least 2 articles published in DHET accredited journals or a DHET accredited book;
    • At least 2 other publication outputs (peer reviewed conference paper(s) / book chapter(s) / industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field;
    • Supervision / co-supervision of Master’s students to completion or proven management experience in industry.

    Associate Professor

    • Same as for Senior Lecturer, plus;
    • At least 6 years tertiary education experience or 6 years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
    • Experience in curriculum / strategy development and innovation;
    • Evidence of sustained publications output;
    • Majority of recent publications should be in WoS / Scopus / IBSS journals (past 7 years);
    • Evidence of at least 3 research Master’s OR 6 coursework Master’s mini-dissertations successfully completed (supervised or co-supervised);
    • Evidence of Doctoral student supervision;
    • Evidence of conducting reviewer duties for journals and/or conferences.

    Professor

    • Same as Associate Professor , plus;

    • A record of previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience, including graduation of Doctoral students;
    • A well-established and internationally recognized research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals with an average of 2 units published per year over the past 3 years;
    • Evidence of conference papers delivered internationally;
    • Evidence of conducting reviewer duties for ISI journals;
    • An NRF rating is required for this level.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The key objective of the Deputy Director: Campus Planning and Development is to manage the allocated portfolio of responsibilities and to contribute actively to departmental management as a senior member of the Department. The following is included in the portfolio:

    Manager: Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships - Department of Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    Stakeholder and network management:  

    • Supporting the Director of Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships (DISP) in facilitating and coordinating engagements with international partners;

    Business processes:

    • Preparing briefing notes for all travel related to DISP, including but not limited to the Director, Vice Principal and Vice-Chancellor’s office;
    • Developing an online interactive web-based database for all partnerships and the return-on-investment linked to each;
    • Managing service providers on business requirements and develop content for further engagements;
    • Tracking and analysing trends in the higher education funding landscape at the national, regional and global levels;

    Financial management:

    • Developing business plans and projects for DISP cost centres based on the planned activities for the year;
    • Supporting DISP leadership in budget planning and allocation for grants other strategic initiatives when required;
    • Managing operational budget according to UP financial policies and procedures as well as PFMA;

    Human Resources management:

    • Supporting DISP management in provision of guidance to professional staff on alignment of institutional global engagement strategies and donor funding priorities;

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree; with

    Programme Administrator

    Key responsibilities include: 

    Departmental and Office Administration:

    • Managing the general administration and finances of projects;
    • Coordinating effectively with CAS post-docs and external actors;                
    • Participating in developing monitoring and evaluation indicators for projects and collecting data;
    • Conference organising including logistics, flights, hotels, questionnaires and other tasks;
