    Management Forester - Mooiplaas

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Management Forester to plan, execute & achieve the operational estate management, harvesting objectives & targets for fibre production within resource & SHEQ parameters to ensure a sustainable and low cost fibre supply to Sappi mills and external customers.
    As a Management Forester, you will be responsible for:

    • Build, maintain and reinforce a “predict and prevent” safety culture in all integrated operations
    • Inspect operations regularly to identify risks & ensure that timeous action (blanking & pest control, coppice management) is undertaken.
    • Plan & conduct regular field inspections to ensure that crops, through the timing of operations (weed control, pest & disease management), achieve maximum yields within cost constraints.
    • Ensure that plantations use the Fire Risk Management System (FRMS) to identify risks. Record & implement fire control procedures in order to ensure the effective protection of people, plantations and other assets from forest fires.
    • Develop a tactical plan & ensure that the annual plan of operations for both commercial and open areas comply with standards and service level agreements
    • Develop a pre-harvest plan per compartment in collaboration with the Contractor and Silviculture.
    • Conduct a risk assessment per compartment in order to mitigate potential risks.
    • Ensure that the Harvesting budget is managed effectively by ensuring sales target tons/per day is achieved.
    • Compile in conjunction with Roads Engineer, annual tactical road maintenance plan.
    • Scheduling of short-haul and loading operations to ensure rail/road transport is released on time.
    • Ensure that company assets such as buildings, villages and company houses are maintained and managed effectively according to set standards (hygiene & legal compliance) and within budget constraints.
    • Ensure that relations with communities, other internal and external stakeholders are effectively maintained and managed in order to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated and relationships enhanced.

    What are we looking for?

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • Minimum of three years relevant experience.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Engineer: Boilers - Umkomaas

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Engineer: Boilers to supply competent and cost-effective maintenance and engineering support, service, advice, solutions, and techniques to maximize boiler performance in a safe and legally compliant manner.

    As an Engineer: Boilers, you will be responsible for:

    • Develop, implement, and maintain standards to increase boiler plant and equipment reliability and safe operation
    • Complete failure analysis of plant and equipment  as per plant standard, identify probable root cause and ensure close-out
    • Inspect the internal condition of the boiler during shut down in relation to the AIA to obtain a COC after any modification and repair
    • Manage boiler inspection reports and repair data books
    • Assist the Maintenance Manager with long-term maintenance planning, budgeting, capex, maintenance, and project work execution
    • Provide weekly feedback to the Maintenance Manager on boiler performance, unresolved engineering problems, monthly projects report, investigations undertaken, and the status 
    • Support ISO9000 (Quality Management system), ISO14001 (Environmental Management standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System), and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section. Educate the team on the requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies, procedures, and work instructions
    • Participate in the development of safe work procedures for the section, perform critical task analysis, guide and monitor the team on correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work

    What are we looking for?

    • 5 years of Boiler and turbine experience
    • Experience within the pulp and paper industry would be considered advantageous
    • NQF level 7 Engineering Qualification (BSc / BEng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering)
    • GCC (Factories) or permission to write will be considered advantageous
    • Management Development Programme (MDP) or relevant management qualification will be considered advantageous

    Hydraulics Technician - Ngodwana

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Hydraulics Technician to provide an engineering and maintenance service by undertaking installation, maintenance, repair, and modification activities on hydraulic and lubrication equipment and systems of a complex nature

    As a Hydraulics Technician, you will be responsible for:

    • Responsible for the modification of hydraulic and lubrication systems by configuring new components and installation to standardise equipment as far as possible to meet production and engineering requirements.
    • Collaborates with others (e.g., contractors, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services.
    • To ensure that plant modification requests are submitted for all system modifications and approved by the relevant Production and Engineering personnel, including filing of documentation at the Drawing Office for future reference.
    • Ensures drawings of plant hydraulic schematics, which are used for basic fault-finding, are updated timorously and correctly, and latest revision is filed at Drawing Office.
    • Responsible for the commissioning of hydraulic and lubrication systems, new or modified installations by making final connection to the plant according to production and engineering requirements and standards.
    • To ensure hydraulic / lubrication systems comply to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 system requirements.
    • As a result of investigations, creates/initiates, or updates drawings, recommends maintenance plans and procedures.
    • Responsible for oil sampling and implementation of recommendations as per oil sampling and analysis program.
    • Participate as team member in MDT team that carries out technical investigations regarding maintenance problems to close out failures on all Hydraulic / Lubrications related failures.
    • Carries out standby duties
    • Utilise all Sappi systems in the execution of the maintenance strategy and realization of the objectives (SAP, PS, PM,CO,RCA & Activity Manager).
    • Assist Maintenance Engineers with preparation of Maintenance budget.
    • Support MDT
    • Support Maintenance effort
    • Shut implementation and supervision

     What are we looking for?

    • NQF6: N. Diploma Engineering Studies
    • Recognised Fitter Trade certificate
    • Heavy industry experience – 3 to 5 years
    • 3 years hydraulic system and maintenance experience (Advantageous)

    As a Maintenance Support Mechanical (Foreman) -  Newsprint (Paper)you will be responsible for: 

    • Assess equipment, materials and labour needed to complete large and/or complex maintenance tasks for the purpose of ensuring that maintenance activities meet district standards and resolve the defined issue(s) while reducing wasted resources.
    • Collaborate with others (e.g., contractors, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
    • Coordinate services and activities of outside contractors as assigned for the purpose of ensuring that contracted work is completed in a safe, effective and timely manner that it meets Mill’s standards and objectives.
    • Directly assigned maintenance staff in resolving maintenance issues for the purpose of ensuring that Mill sections are maintained in a safe and effective working/learning environment.
    • Maintain a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of providing up-to-date references and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
    • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicle(s) for the purpose of ensuring their availability as needed to meet assigned maintenance objectives.
    • Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance activities for the purpose of ensuring that maintenance issues are resolved, and projects are completed in a safe, effective and timely manner.
    • Prepare a variety of program-mandated documents and reports for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with Mill and/or legal requirements.
    • Prioritise and assign system-related work orders to skilled maintenance staff for the purpose of ensuring that section is maintained in a safe working/learning environment and meeting guidelines within the approved budget.
    • Required to work standby and overtime as required.
    • Integrating and align with lean manufacturing.
    •  Drive SAP to ensure proper maintenance standards, asset utilisation, planning forecast and maintenance execution.
    •  Passion to drive and excel performance on the machine.
    •  Manage and assist in RCAs to implementation and improve on Predictive maintenance. 

    What are we looking for?

    • Post Matric Certificate / Diploma / NQF level 5 - 6
    • Recognised Trade Certificate (Manpower/Seta accredited)
    •  3 - 5 years’ plant operations experience
    • Computer Literate (MS Office Package)
    • Valid driving license
    • Pulp and Paper industry experience advantageous
    • SAP knowledge advantageous

    Broke Handler - Stanger

    • We’re on the lookout for Broke Handler to assist the Dry End Operator run the day to day operations of the Dry End of the Paper Machine and remove broke from the paper section and put into the pulper so that pulp levels are maintained to an optimum rate on a continuous basis.

    As Broke Handler, you will be responsible for:

    • Maintaining a high standard of safety and housekeeping
    • Assisting the Dry End Operator with reel change overs
    • Assisting with tail feed from the press section
    • Collecting and removing broke from within the section and puts into the pulper
    • Relieving in positions trained for within the paper section
    • Carrying out any other duties / tasks as requested by the supervisor from time to time
    • Identifying and taking corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards
    • Adhering to environmental policy and procedures including: reducing waste and preventing spills

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent
    • Full N1 Pulp & Paper or equivalent
    • 1 years’ experience in a Pulp and Paper manufacturing environment
    • Crane licence is preferred
