    Director, Product Management

    Your Team and Role

    • As a Director on the Product Management team at DuckDuckGo, you will bring cross-functional teams together to build world-class privacy products, used by millions of people globally. You will co-create, coach and collaborate with Engineers, Designers and partner with other functions, such as User Insights to define, prioritise and develop new products and features - end-to-end.
    • You will have the opportunity to take ownership of components of our products and to contribute to product strategy across the company. You will help us define and hold a high bar for quality in all of our product development work.

    About You

    • 10+ years of experience, including 4+ years in leadership roles related to product management (e.g., Head, Principal, Director, etc.).
    • Experience leading features from inception through launch, including 2+ years of work on at least one product with a large, diverse user base (i.e., >500k weekly active users).
    • Strong people and strategic leadership skills.
    • Experience bringing together cross-functional teams to goal-set, roadmap, and resource projects.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Experience leveraging experiments and data to inform product decisions.
    • Experience collecting and learning from user feedback.
    • Excellent product intuition and taste.
    • Aptitude for translating complex technical topics (e.g., privacy on the Internet) into simple product solutions.
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills.

    Senior Brand Strategist

    Your Team and Role

    • While you'll be based on the Marketing Communications Functional Team, in this role, you will work across the marketing, product, content, engineering, and design teams to ensure every experience a user has with our brand is consistent and feels like DuckDuckGo. You'll help us understand what makes our tens of millions of users unique by developing in-depth insights about our user segments, their needs and motivations, and translating those insights into our user-facing touchpoints such as ads and product pages. Recent projects include:
    • Coordinating cross-team work related to visual identity evolution, both in and out of the product.
    • Execute innovative social campaign activations to drive word-of-mouth growth.
    • While we encourage everyone at DuckDuckGo to be a steward of the brand, as a Brand Strategist, you'll be a go-to resource to help make sure it's being executed on effectively.

    About You

    • 7+ years of experience in brand positioning and strategy work. This role is not in charge of ad creative development, though contributes to those projects.
    • You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership. Experience executing on high-impact and complex projects from proposal through post-mortem. No task is too small.
    • Skills to wrangle vague problems and propose innovative and pragmatic solutions.
    • Strong attention to detail. You catch the small things others miss.
    • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in leveraging qualitative and quantitative data to guide creative decisions.
    • You're a persuasive writer with experience crafting brand guidelines and messaging frameworks.

    Senior Software Engineer, Windows Desktop App (New Positions!)

    Your team and role

    • We have doubled the size of our team, but we are still looking to grow! Working on the Windows Functional Team, you'll build secure, privacy-focused applications for Microsoft Windows, using C#/.NET 8, WPF, WebView2, Git and Visual Studio, and work on related projects. Recent projects include:
    • Start-up boost for our Windows browser
    • Bookmark and login exporting
    • As a Senior Software Engineer, Windows Desktop App, you'll collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers across Native Apps teams to craft a world-class browser with embedded privacy and data protection features that will revolutionize the way people search, surf, and exist online.
    • In addition to being responsible for building solutions to get us closer to our first release, you'll help define the roadmap, take ownership of significant application features, and experiment with ways to improve them. The projects you deliver will build the foundation of one of DuckDuckGo's flagship products.

    About You

    • Experience implementing ideas from scratch, owning major application features, and owning their maintenance and improvement over time.
    • Experience participating in technical architecture decisions that shape the software architecture of a consumer product.
    • Advanced level of programming expertise, with knowledge of C#. We currently use .NET 8.
    • A significant level of experience in building customer-facing applications and crafting user interfaces (including at least one desktop application), ideally with WPF, UWP, WinUI, WinForms, or other relevant .NET UI.
    • Deep understanding of software design patterns such as MVVM, MVP, etc.
    • Event-driven programming (e.g., using Rx.NET) experience is considered an advantage.

    Senior Privacy Engineer

    Your Team and Role

    • Working on the Privacy Functional Team, you'll lead complex projects across key company-wide objectives. Using Go, Node.js, Python, and (in some cases) Perl (Version 5), you’ll write pragmatic, performant, testable code that works consistently and helps protect the privacy of our users. Potential projects include:
    • Designing systems for improving our search indexes and AI features without compromising user privacy
    • Building new features on top of our Tracker Radar crawler to detect emerging privacy threats
    • Implementing new privacy features and maintaining existing ones, such as our Web Tracking and Email Protections
    • As a Senior Privacy Engineer, you'll collaborate remotely with your peers and take ownership over major components of our privacy technology, taking responsibility for their maintenance and improvement over time. A key part of the role will also be participation in our privacy review and audit processes, ensuring that all product developments align with our privacy principles. In time, you'll formally mentor other engineers, supporting their career growth and the growth of the Privacy Team at DuckDuckGo.

    About You

    • Ability to lead and collaborate on high-impact and complex projects from proposal through post-mortem.
    • Skills to wrangle vague problems, propose innovative solutions, and execute them effectively, involving others when necessary.
    • Experience working on privacy solutions in an engineering capacity (e.g., tracker blocker, differential privacy, or similar technology).
    • Experience in privacy review and audit processes that ensure product developments align with established privacy principles.
    • Deep technical understanding of online privacy threats and the existing solution space to protect against them.
    • Proficiency in any of the following: Go, Node.js, and Python.
    • Cross-functional communication skills. You can communicate your ideas to and understand the needs of various teams, such as legal, product, and marketing.

    Senior Backend Engineer

    Your Team and Role

    • Working on the Backend Functional Team, you'll lead complex projects across key company-wide objectives. Using Perl (Version 5), Go, and Node.js, you’ll write pragmatic, performant, testable code that works consistently, and work on related projects. Recent projects include:
    • Implementing AI-assisted answers and integrating them into our Search product while maintaining our privacy-first approach
    • Architecting and delivering the VPN in our Privacy Pro subscription
    • Implementing sophisticated data processing pipelines that maintain search relevancy
    • As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll collaborate remotely with your peers and take responsibility for solving product issues impacting our all-in-one privacy solution, whether large or small. In time, you'll formally mentor other engineers, supporting their career growth and the growth of the Backend Team at DuckDuckGo.

    About You

    • 7+ years of professional experience, primarily focused on backend engineering, with demonstrable experience of working on at least one large application.
    • A fundamental understanding of complex data structures and algorithms — you can develop and apply new solutions and confidently navigate and improve existing code. If you're curious, we mostly use Perl.
    • Data-driven reasoning and analytical skills and the ability to apply them to make decisions, facilitate stakeholder alignment, and deliver projects in an experiment-oriented environment.
    • Effective project management skills.
    • Excellent communication skills. You can validate and communicate your decisions clearly in writing and verbally.
    • Previous experience leading and mentoring experienced engineers, supporting their career goals, and unlocking their potential.
