    Medical Scientist (in Virology, UFS Next Generation Sequencing Unit) (Post Level 8) (Job ID: 6097)

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Maintain a robust workflow for genomic sequencing of enteric and respiratory viruses using the lllumina platforms and Oxford Nanopore Technologies.
    • Perform data analyses and report generation of whole genome and metagenomic sequencing of viral pathogens.

    • Significant experience in conducting research on whole genome and metagenomic characterization of enteric and respiratory viruses, with a track record.
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ hands-on experience preparing sequencing libraries on automated liquid handlers (preferably Hamilton NGS Star and Perkin Elmer Zypher automated workstations).
    • Experience in generating sequencing data on the lllumina MiSeq, lllumina NextSeq 2000, and Oxford Nanopore platforms.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals in the field of virology.  

    Recommendations:

    POPIA Officer (Post Level 8) (Job ID: 6088)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Assess, evaluate and analyse the feedback in the implementation of POPIA.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Residence operational management:

    • Ensure effective management of residence life operations at the campus’s residence of UFS
    • Lead the development of housing and residence affairs plans and operations and ensure executions.
    • Facilitate the development of the best practices and standards for managing residences.
    • Develop and ensure the implementation of residence manuals, policies, and guidelines for UFS residences.

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor (2 Positions) - Department Industrial Psychology

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Teach Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students. 
    • Conduct high-quality research, publish in accredited journals, and deliver quality research outputs in line with the faculty's research strategy. 
    • Provide supervision to postgraduate students, namely Honours, Masters, PhD students, and professional industrial psychology interns. 
    • Provide leadership in pursuit of the department and faculty strategic plan with regard to research, teaching, engaged scholarship and leadership and administration. 
    • Perform academic administration pertaining to undergraduate and postgraduate subjects – this may include typing, setting, and marking all question papers and memorandums, recording marks and handling student complaints. 
    • Serve as a member of various academic committees and perform any other tasks allocated by the Dean and head of the department. 
    • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with relevant research, civil society, government, industry, and professional organisations. 
    • Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.

    Inherent requirements:

    Senior Lecturer

    • A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management. 
    • Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. 
    • Proven experience in supervising to completion of master’s students and if registered as an Industrial Psychologist, industrial psychology interns. 
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (attach a copy).
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences. 
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship. 
    • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating. 
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals. 
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency 

    Associate Professor

    • A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management. 
    • Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. 
    • Proven experience in supervising to completion of master’s students and if registered as an Industrial Psychologist, industrial psychology interns. 
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (attach a copy). 
    • Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate students. 
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national and international conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers. 
    • Experience on the editorial board of a scholarly journal. 
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship. 
    • An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status. 
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in high-quality accredited national and international journals. 

    Professor

    • A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management. 
    • Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. 
    • Proven experience in supervising to completion of Master’s, and preferably PhD students and if registered as an Industrial Psychologist, industrial psychology interns. 
    • Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (attach a copy).
    • Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a particular area of academic scholarship (for example, regularly serves as a reviewer for international/ISI/IBSS journals).
    • A research record of relevant publications in high-quality national and international accredited journals. 
    • Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate students. 
    • Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences. 
    • Experience on the editorial board of a scholarly journal. 
    • An NRF rating of C1 or C2   or equivalent status. 
    • Served as a member of a national or international scholarly society or committee, or agency concerned with research at higher education levels. 

    Recommendations:

    • Proven lecturing experience in the Higher Education environment.
    • Proven experience in supervising to completion of PhD students.
    • Evidence of professional supervision of intern industrial psychologists. 
    • Proven experience in presenting Industrial Psychology modules such as Research Methodology, Employee Wellness and Labour Relations. 
    • Proficiency in computer skills, e.g., MS word, excel, PowerPoint. 
    • Proven skills in data analysis using IBM SPSS, AMOS, PLS. 
    • Good command of the English language.
    • Evidence of application for funding in (multidisciplinary) research projects. 
    • Demonstrate potential in wider public engagement and dissemination of research.

    Associate Professor - Department of Education Management, Policy and Comparative Education

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Provide formal teaching for undergraduate as well as post-graduate programmes. 
    • Act as a supervisor for postgraduate students. 
    • Ensure active involvement in research. 
    • Active involvement in curriculum development relating to Education Management. 

    Inherent requirements: 

    • A relevant Doctoral degree in Education on NQF Level 10 with specialisation in Education Management or Leadership. 
    • Candidates should also be in possession of a formal teaching qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education, Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent) (attach a copy). 
    • Proven experience in research management and capacity building. 
    • Experience as external examiner of postgraduate students. 
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national and/or international conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers. 
    • Act as an editorial board member and/or reviewer of high-quality national scholarly journals. 
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship. 
    • An NRF rating or equivalent status. 
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s students. 
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in accredited national and international journals. 
    • Serve as a member of a national scholarly society, OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

    Recommendations:

    • At least 5-years lecturing and/or research experience in the Higher Education environment
    • Experience in community engagement. 
    • Experience in grant writing and/or preparing research funding applications.
