    Senior Lecturer, Information Technology

    Senior Lecturer

    The Department of Information Technology hosts the Luban Workshop in collaboration with Taijin Vocational Institute (TVI) of China.  These are specialist labs for 3D printing and NB IOT, giving students and researchers access to new technology, providing space for innovation and entrepreneurship.  This unique environment, as well as many other initiatives, in collaboration projects across continents provides an exciting employment opportunity.

    Minimum requirements:

    • A completed Doctorate Degree, and an undergraduate study in the field of Information Technology, Information Systems,  Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
    • At least 5 years lecturing experience in Higher education teaching at undergraduate and/or post graduate level.*
    • Active participation in professional, industry and or community activities.
    • Candidates must demonstrate scholarship of teaching and must have produced/ published at least three research outputs in the preceding three years (e.g. accredited book, chapter in a book, accredited creative output, patent, review article, journal article, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc.).*
    • Successful supervision of at least one postgraduate student at Master’s level.

    NOTE:

    • Applicants with Doctoral qualifications who do not meet requirements marked by * may be considered for a Lecturer position but must meet the experience requirement of having 3 years of teaching experience at tertiary level.

    Summary of Duties:

    • Required to lecture in Information Technology discipline (any of the following): Programming and programming languages, Data Structures, Operating systems, Networks, Cybersecurity, Human Computer Interaction, Ethics, Software Engineering, Image Processing, Research Methodology.
    • Supervise postgraduate students
    • Publication and ongoing research
    • Participate in research development
    • Participate in curriculum development
    • Engage in community/External Engagement Services including playing an active role in the functioning of Professional and subject related associations.
    • Develop and write study material.
    • Undertake administration and other academic duties assigned by the Head of Department

    Senior Lecturer, Information And Corporate Management

    Lecturer (Faculty of Engineering & The Built Environment)

    Minimum requirements:

    An NQF level 9 Architectural degree (e.g. M. Arch). A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline may be considered provided that a foundational NQF level 7 architectural qualification has also been achieved.

    • Lecturing / professional experience at PrArch level or a combination thereof that adds up to at least 3 years.
    • Experience in managing the implementation of architectural-related software and hardware
    • Expertise in BIM software application, specifically related to workflow.

    Senior Technician

    SENIOR TECHNICIAN (Ref. M613)

     Minimum Requirements:

    • A Bachelors-Degree or equivalent Technical Qualification in Mechanical Engineering (NQF 7) or closely related.
    • At least 3 years technical professional/industrial experience.

    Additional Recommendations:

    • Experience with Thermal Analysis equipment or Electron Microscopy.
    • Primary qualifications accredited by a professional body such as the Engineering Council of South Africa
    • Good communication, effective people management skills, and adherence to workplace
    • Strong inter-personal skills in managing students of diversity and working with a diverse pool of staff.
    • A strong passion for technical investigations, troubleshooting, repairs and creative development of laboratory.
    • Aptitude to learn engineering application software, and to improve and engage in professional development activities.

    Duties:

    • Operation of the Thermal Analysis equipment (DSC, TGA, DMA), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), and the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
    • Perform testing and analysis for undergraduate and postgraduate students, DUT staff, students and staff from other universities, and clients from industry.
    • Oversee operations of all laboratories/workshops in the department.
    • Manage and monitor all laboratory/workshop staff.
    • Ensure laboratories under management control, are maintained in full functional state and safe working conditions to facilitate a disciplined and efficient execution of students’ practicals and projects.
    • Carry out maintenance of laboratory equipment, including repair and changing of
    • Undertake fault finding and troubleshooting tasks on departmental hardware facilities and software tools.
    • Maintain an inventory of all laboratory equipment, control the issuing of equipment and consumable stock usage, and coordinate the purchase of consumable and capital items.
    • Assist with administrative duties such as venue set-up for seminars, lectures, practicals and be actively involved in the development of our laboratories, with state-of-the-art facilities.
    • Assist academic staff in regularly assessing student's performance through practical.
