    Graduate Development Programme: Catchment

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Water Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or related field. (Honours or Master’s degree advantageous).
    • Valid South African driver’s license (Code B) – field travel may be required.
    • Willingness to work in remote areas and conduct fieldwork under varying weather conditions.
    • Good report writing and communication skills in English (other South African languages advantageous).
    • Familiarity with GIS applications (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).

    Primary Duties

    • Conduct fieldwork for surface and/or groundwater quality sampling in catchment areas.
    • Monitor water quality parameters using manual and automated methods.
    • Assist in the setup, calibration, and validation of hydrological and water quality models,
    • Collect, clean, analyse, and interpret hydrological and water quality data using GIS and statistical tools.
    • Conduct catchment delineation and land use impact assessments.
    • Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and stakeholder meetings.
    • Identify pollution sources and assessing water quality trends.
    • Stay updated with national legislation (e.g., NWA, NEMA), DWS water quality standards, and relevant modelling frameworks.

    Graduate Development Programme:Process Technology

    Minimum Requirements

    • Must have completed a Masters or PhD in chemistry, Water Engineering, Material- Science. Product formulation or Chemical engineering
    • Studied at a recognised South African institution
    • Have NOT participated in any previous graduate programmes
    • Below the age of 35 years
    • South African Citizen with a valid Identity Document (ID)
    • Applicants should have no work experience related to qualification
    • No criminal record

    Primary Duties

    • As a graduate, you will be exposed to the workplace and be provided with an opportunity to develop technical and professional competencies.

    Graduate Development Programme: SHEQ

    Minimum Requirements

    • B.Tech in Health & Safety Management.
    • SAMTRAC/Equivalent.
    • Root Cause Analysis Technique (RCAT).
    • Driver’s license.

    Primary Duties

    • SHE induction of contractors and new Rand Water employees.
    • Monitor contractors’ compliance onsite.
    • Coordinating SHE Reps monthly inspections and reporting.
    • SHE awareness training of employees.
    • Conduct quarterly internal audits.
    • Monitor adherence to legal & other requirements.
    • Coordinate collection & disposal of waste from site.
    • CCTV & access control system management.
    • Complete a project as defined by the Risk Control Coordinator.

    Graduate Development Programme: Quality

    • Four years qualification (NQF 8) in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
    • Experience in research projects and techniques.

    Primary Duties

    • Development of new analytical methods, or improvement of methods in the field of Analytical Chemistry.
    • Performance of analysis and trouble shouting related to methods and instruments.
    • Documentation and checking of results on the identified databases.
    • Performance and documentation of all quality control checks of identified analytical test according to the ISO 17025 accreditation system.
    • Undertaking maintenance of equipment/instrumentation and keeping of appropriate documentation.
    • Adherence to SHEQ practices and good housekeeping principles in the area of work

    • Experience in research projects and techniques.

    Primary Duties

    • Development and validation of new analytical methods, or enhancement of existing ones, within the field of Analytical Chemistry.
    • Execution of complex analyses and provide technical and scientific troubleshooting for analytical methods and laboratory instrumentation.
    • Documentation and checking of results on the identified databases
    • Performance and documentation of all quality control checks of identified analytical test according to the ISO 17025 accreditation system.
    • Undertaking routine and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation including maintaining comprehensive documentation.
    • Adherence to all Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) practices and uphold excellent housekeeping principles within the work environment.

    Graduate Development Programme: Biology

    Minimum Requirements

    • Four years qualification (NQF 8) in Environmental Health, Aquatic Health or Microbiology with Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology and/or molecular biology as a major.
    • Experience in research projects and techniques that can be applied in the field of Microbiology, Toxicology, Aquatic Health or Molecular Biology testing.

    Primary Duties

    • Development of specialised investigations related to the implementation of new methods or upgrading of methods in the fields of microbiology, aquatic toxicology, molecular biology or human health.
    • Performance of analysis and trouble shouting related to media, test methods and instrumentation.
    • Documentation and checking of results on the identified databases.
    • Performance and documentation of all quality control checks of identified analytical test according to the ISO 17025 accreditation system.
    • Undertaking maintenance of equipment/instrumentation and keeping of appropriate documentation.
    • Adherence to SHE practices and good housekeeping principles in the area of work
