    Research Assistant: Economic Agroecology (Four Years: Fixed Term Contract) (Pretoria)

    Description

    • Conduct of Economic analysis, including economic viability and economic feasibility of Agroecology farming systems.
    • Development of Enterprise budgets for Agroecology projects, including research experiments and trials.
    • Conduct Socio-Economic research on Agroecology and climate-change related topics.
    • Development of viable farm-designs towards resource optimization.
    • Publish popular and scientific articles related to the economics of Agroecology.
    • Provide administrative support to Senior Agricultural Economist, relating to Agroecology projects.

    Requirements

    • Hons degree or four-year degree in Agricultural Economics
    • 1-3 years' experience working in Agricultural research, including data collection through field surveys focusing on environmental and/or resource economics, development of viable farm designs
    • Good skills in statistical and econometric analysis
    • Good analytical, report writing and organizational skills.
    • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office suite.
    • A valid driver’s licence (code 08/EB) would be an added advantage.

    Organisational Effectiveness Manager (Central Office Hatfield)

    Description

    • Responsible for implementing organisational effectiveness strategies focusing on innovative and holistic organisational design processes, employee engagement, change management programmes, culture awareness to create a workplace reflecting ARC’s values.
    • To drive the Organisation Effectiveness (OE) agenda and to provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the HR teams as required.
    • To support and enable the effective management of organisational design and change management strategic objectives through identifying and leading the development and implementation of OE projects and initiatives that will include, amongst others, organisation design and diagnosis, data analytics, organisation effectiveness & efficiency, maintenance of organisational job architecture as well as change and cultural transformation.
    • Guide the development of a comprehensive change management strategy and framework that is tailored to ARC’s needs and objectives.
    • Work closely with project teams to ensure the successful execution of change initiatives, monitoring progress, and adjusting strategies as needed.
    • Conduct readiness assessments to evaluate an organisation's preparedness for change, identifying potential barriers and resistance.
    • Develop clear and effective communication plans that inform employees about changes, timelines, and the rationale behind them.
    • Collect and analyse feedback from employees and stakeholders, adjusting change strategies to improve effectiveness.
    • Ensure the departmental structures across ARC support the achievement of strategic objectives through continuous consultation and monitoring.
    • Drive the communication, understanding and adoption of organisational design principles and policies (job architecture principles, naming convention principles, organisational design principles, levels of work principles).
    • Review workforce planning, staff establishment and costing thereof for alignment with strategy and budget.
    • Oversight into maintenance and system management of the staff establishment and develop procedure for management of org structure changes.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree or NQF-Level 7 qualification in Human resources, Human Behavioral Sciences Industrial Psychology or related field.
    • Postgraduate qualification in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
    • 8-10 years-experience in Human Resource field at Management level.
    • 5-7 experience in change management and organisational effectiveness role.

    Researcher (3 Years Contract) (Roodeplaat)

    Description

    • Strong knowledge of plant anatomy, morphology, and taxonomy.
    • Familiarity with Southern African flora.
    • Experience in herbarium practices and specimen curation.
    • Ability to use dichotomous keys and identification tools.
    • Proficiency in botanical nomenclature and the ICN (International Code of Nomenclature).
    • Fieldwork experience in diverse South African ecosystems.
    • Report writing and scientific publication skills (publishes semi-scientific and peer reviewed articles and publishes in journals with a high impact factor).
    • Use of taxonomic databases (e.g., BRAHMS platforms).
    • Mentor and supervise postgraduate students (MSc/PhD) in Plant Taxonomy, Botany, Systematics or related fields.
    • Initiate and manage national and international research collaborations and partnerships.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Manages data, captures and shows advanced analysis, interpretation, and recommendations.
    • Complies with all occupational health and safety regulations.

    Requirements

    • PhD or MSc with a minimum of 3 years’ post MSc relevant work experience in Plant Taxonomy, Botany, Systematics or related fields.
    • A publication record with a minimum of 2 scientific publications already published with a record of additional work in progress.
    • Record of presenting research at national and/or international conferences.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience with proposal writing, field-based research, and stakeholder coordination.
    • Proven record of generating research funding and collaborations.
    • Proven experience in working with large teams and on multiple projects at the same time.
    • Proven track record of PhD and/or MSc student supervision in relevant fields of study.
    • Must have a Driver’s license Code 8 or 10.
