    Technical Support (Mechanical) - Bulk Material Handling

    JOB TITLE: Technical Support (Mechanical) - Bulk Material Handling, Cape Town, South Africa

    • We are looking for a Technical Support Specialist – Bulk Material Handling (Mechanical) to join our team in Cape Town. In this role, you will be the initial technical point of contact for customers, working closely with the Sales team to understand and define customer needs.
    • Your primary responsibility will be to evaluate technical requirements and develop first-level engineering solutions, including preliminary designs, drawings, specifications, and technical data that align with Metso’s product and service capabilities.
    • This position plays a key role in shaping early-stage opportunities by ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with customer expectations. You will support the quotation process by providing accurate and timely technical input, ensuring compatibility with bulk material handling systems, and helping to craft tailored solutions that meet performance, cost, and delivery targets. Your contributions will directly impact customer satisfaction and the successful transition of opportunities into executable projects.
    • You will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
    • This position is mainly located in Cape Town, South Africa.

    TEAM YOU BELONG TO

    • You’ll be part of the Technical Support - Bulk Material Handling Team, collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders including Sales, Supply Chain, Management, Clients, Sub-Contractors, and Engineering. Together, you’ll drive early-stage technical engagement and shape customer solutions that align with our mechanical and electrical capabilities.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Lead first-level technical engagement for assessing equipment functionality related to refurbishment, upgrades, or retrofits
    • Prepare and compile technical requirements and supporting engineering data for proposed solutions
    • Perform mechanical and electrical engineering design calculations to validate feasibility and performance
    • Assist in developing and reviewing functional design specification packages
    • Contribute to the creation and review of technical documentation, including installation, operation, and maintenance manuals
    • Prepare and review commissioning and start-up procedures to ensure smooth project execution
    • Provide on-site engineering support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting phases
    • Collaborate with Sales to define customer needs and translate them into technical solutions
    • Support root cause analysis and technical investigations for existing equipment and field issues
    • Coordinate with internal teams such as Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Management to align technical deliverables
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company engineering practices
    • Maintain accurate records of technical engagements, design iterations, and customer feedback
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and solution quality

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Hold a Technical Degree or higher in Engineering or a related discipline
    • Bring 6–8 years of hands-on experience in mechanical engineering
    • Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD software for design and documentation
    • Experienced in field engineering, including installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting
    • Understand Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) concepts and their application in engineering workflows
    • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Engineering Data Management (EDM) systems and practices
    • Well-versed in relevant international engineering codes, standards, and compliance requirements
    • Able to independently organize, plan, and execute tasks with minimal supervision

    Proposal Engineer - Bulk Material Handling

    JOB TITLE: Proposal Engineer - Bulk Material Handling, Cape Town, South Africa

    • We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Proposal Engineer – Bulk Material Handling to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting competitive and commercially attractive proposals for both basic and complex Engineer-to-Order (ETO) project opportunities.
    • These opportunities are initiated by Market Areas and managed through Salesforce, requiring close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure technical accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with customer expectations.
    • The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of bulk material handling systems and a passion for translating technical solutions into compelling commercial offers.
    • You will play a key role in supporting the sales process by developing proposal documentation, pricing strategies, and scope definitions that reflect our commitment to quality and innovation. Your ability to balance technical precision with commercial insight will be essential in driving successful project acquisition and customer satisfaction.

    TEAM YOU WILL BELONG TO

    • The Proposal Engineer will be part of a collaborative, globally connected Commercial Support team that drives sales success across Metso’s Market Areas. This team works closely with Technical Sales Support, Product Line experts, and regional Proposal Engineers to deliver high-quality, value-driven proposals for engineered solutions.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Create timely and accurate Engineered to Order (ETO) commercial proposals for all Grinding, Bulk Material Handling, and Pyro (GBP) technologies.
    • Develop competitive and commercially attractive proposals for both basic and complex ETO project opportunities raised by Market Areas in Salesforce.
    • Handle proposals independently and provide support and guidance to Proposal Engineers I, II & III across all regions.
    • Consider Win Plan and other commercial objectives within each proposal, clearly articulating the value offering to potential clients.
    • Collaborate with senior team members, Technical Sales Support, Product Line, and other key stakeholders to support proposal creation where appropriate.
    • Proactively request additional information from opportunity creators, Product Line, and other stakeholders to strengthen the sales case.
    • Analyze, propose, and implement improvements to current proposal processes and documentation.
    • Actively drive the development and standardization of proposal workflows and best practices.
    • Ensure proposals comply with internal governance, risk management, and approval processes.
    • Maintain and update cost models, pricing tools, and proposal templates to reflect current market conditions and internal benchmarks.
    • Track proposal status and outcomes in Salesforce, providing feedback and insights to improve future win rates.
    • Support contract review and negotiation processes by providing technical and commercial input as needed.
    • Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and clarification sessions to defend and explain proposal content.
    • Monitor competitor offerings and market trends to inform proposal positioning and differentiation.
    • Contribute to internal training and mentoring of junior proposal engineers to build team capability.
    • Collaborate with supply chain and procurement to validate vendor quotes and lead times for proposal accuracy.

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Technical Degree or equivalent experience desirable​
    • Able to read and understand drawings and understands assemblies of items​
    • Strong commercial acumen and demonstrated sales ability​

    Team Leader (Repairs Workshop)

    • We are seeking a Team Leader (Repairs Workshop), to join our Repairs Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating jobs for Strip, Assessment and Assembly.
    • They will manage team members and prioritize work throughout the department. They will also ensure HSE procedures are in place, implemented and enforced.

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • N3 or higher
    • Qualified Artisan
    • 10 years’ experience in crusher assembly and testing

    • Ensuring execution of sourcing strategy through a predefined supply base
    • Driving systematic use of sourcing processes, tools, systems, and policies
    • Aligning the use of sourcing tools and systems with key stakeholders
    • Participating in supply base development and separately defined sourcing projects
    • Managing supplier cooperation within the predefined supply base
    • Liaising with Product Lines, Technical Sales Support and Engineering teams on product specifications
    • Monitoring and maintain Vendor performance and reliability

    WHO YOU ARE

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement or Engineering related field
    • CIPS/ MCIPS advantageous
    • Strong Technical background
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Procurement within the mining, mineral processing, or engineering background
    • Advanced MS Excel skills
    • Strong SAP (MM, FICO) skills
