    Employee Relations Officer

    Role Context

    Employee Relations Management

    • Advise line management on various ER issues.
    • Advise on the drafting of misconduct charges.
    • Oversee employee suspension from work.
    • Communicate disciplinary outcomes.
    • Facilitate employee exits in the event of dismissal.
    • Facilitate ER training.
    • Engage with shop stewards on specific issues mandated by ER Management.
    • Facilitate the release of shop stewards to attend to amongst other management meetings
    • Oversee the medical incapacity processes from start to end.
    • Advice line management on how to deal with poor performing employees.
    • Advice line managers on probation related queries
    • Conflict resolution amongst and between employees.
    • Ensure labour peace within workplace.
    • Prepare for and represent the Company during CCMA processes.
    • Receive and facilitate the resolution of employee grievances.
    • Conduct ad-hoc investigations.
    • Filing and capturing on the system ER records.
    • Absenteeism trend analysis

    Administrative and Training Support

    • Organise training sessions and workshops, in collaboration with the Employee Relations Business Partners and Learning and Development (L&D) team.
    • Prepare for ER training sessions, by reviewing and printing updated versions of the training material, to ensure that the facilitator and attendees have all the latest resources as needed.
    • Contact all witnesses, supervisors and/or opposition parties linked to a disciplinary -, Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) -, or pre-arbitration case, to ensure their awareness and participation as needed.
    • Execute all disciplinary process administrative actions (i.e., diary management, letter writing, requesting employee attendance, etc.), to ensure that the disciplinary case/ process can proceed as planned.
    • Prepare, coordinate, record and communicate all ER meetings, by notifying attendees of the meeting logistics and preparing meeting minutes and agendas, to ensure that all ER meetings are executed as needed and key points discussed and communicated to all key stakeholders.

    Compliance Management

    • Stay up-to-date with South African labour laws, regulations and industry standards, to ensure that TM's policies and practices are compliant with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide guidance and support to employees and management in understanding company policies, procedures and practices, to address queries and concerns related to ER policies and guidelines.
    • Maintain accurate records of ER cases, investigations, resolutions, and communication, to ensure the availability of all ER case records as/when needed.
    • Evaluate and review all ER case outcomes and penalties to ensure consistent application of TM standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct audits, ER surveys and dipsticks to assess the effectiveness of all ER procedure and their compliance with regulatory requirements, TM standards and policies, and legislation.

    Resource Management

    • Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
    • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.

    Stakeholder Relations

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Diploma (NQF6) or equivalent in Employee Relations, Labour Relations or equivalent.

    Job-specific experience:

    • Minimum of 5-6 years Employee Relations experience.
    • Advantageous: Experience with The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA); stakeholder relations management and mining industry ER experience.

    Financial Modelling Business Analyst

    Context of role

    • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for mining projects in PGM and base metals sectors, to a DFS level.
    • Ensure the financial models are robust, reflecting cash flows, capital expenditures (capex), operating costs (opex), taxation, and funding structures.
    • Prepare financial models to support debt and equity fundraising and investment decisions, ensuring alignment with project finance requirements.
    • Support the development of financial projections, ensuring they align with the company’s strategic goals, project timelines, and financing needs.
    • Provide scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, and risk assessments within models to support decision-making processes.
    • Work closely with the project development team to gather data and develop models for various mining projects.
    • Report on the financial status of projects, tracking capital spend, cash flow projections, and budget variance analysis.
    • Develop and maintain the holding company’s group financial model to assess overall corporate performance, including profitability, cash flows, and balance sheet health.
    • Ensure the financial models meet governance standards and comply with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS) and regulatory requirements.
    • Travel locally and regionally to mining project sites as required for data gathering, stakeholder engagement, and site-based model discussions.
    • Engage with local teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project financials and ensure accurate data flows back into financial models.
    • Work with finance teams to track actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts, providing insights into financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
    • Support business development efforts by creating financial models to evaluate new investment opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, or expansion projects.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field. A Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MBA, CFA, or MFM) is advantageous.
    • Professional qualification in financial modelling will be beneficial.

    Job specific experience

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial modelling within the mining industry, preferably in projects in the PGM, base metals or chrome sectors.
    • Proven experience in building financial models to DFS for mining projects, with expertise in capital project finance, debt raising, and investment appraisal.
    • Experience working in cross-functional teams and interacting with senior management.
    • Strong understanding of mining project economics, including capex/opex forecasting, mine planning, scheduling, and funding structures.

    Senior Production Geologist

    Role Context

    Continuous Improvement

    • Develop and manage procedures and systems to allow safe, timely and accurate collection of geological information to optimise metal extraction.
    • Translate complex technical geological data and grade into operational practices and draw operational constrains learnings to align production geology and grade strategies.
    • Use data collected by the team to inform planning activities and enable efficient ore-utilisation and optimal ore-extraction.
    • Manage continuous feed grade monitoring and control by conducting weekly reconciliation of estimated plant feed against actual plant feed; implement continuous improvement actions plan to achieve budget.
    • Provide geology inputs to mining practices and optimise/implement ore quality and grade control from the pit, to improve the execution of the crusher plant’s feed grade stability.

    Financial Monitoring and Control

    • Monitor Departmental expenditure against budget allocations, requesting appropriate reallocation as required, to manage the prevention of unnecessary expenditure.

    Material Destination Management

    • Develop and manage the usage of ore destination tracking systems to ensure waste and ore are delivered to the correct destination to prevent cross contamination.
    • Manage Run-of-Mine (RoM) material destination management to ensure material is delivered to the correct stockpiles.
    • Manage external ore geological related information and stockpiling. 

    Mining Geology

    • Manage mining grade control activities, by carrying out pit visits/inspections before and after blasting, as well as post block demarcation to ensure that all mining blocks have approved grade control dig plans.
    • Oversee and audit drilled mining blocks with respect to drill coverage to maintain compliance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC).
    • Lead, control, manage and audit geological data collection adhering to geology procedures example PTO and related checks.
    • Interpret mining geology data, ensuring physical measurement of mining dilution and mining ore-loss, as well as the relevant reporting is completed.
    • Manage interburden waste (IBW) and ore loading, ensuring geological digging and loading procedures/work instructions are established and implemented to achieve the effective execution of mining geological dig plans.
    • Lead, control and manage the formulation of the dig plan and the compliance, including related projects example the ore movement policy.
    • Collaborate with Mining Engineers/Planners and Load and Haul manager to agree on how best to extract/utilise the ore reserve for inclusion into the Grade Control Dig Plan.
    • Lead, control and schedule the ore digging operation of blast blocks and ore mining excavation and overall reconciliation, to ensure reliable and timely pit delineation of ore and waste pit mining.

    People Management

    • Create and maintain a conducive work environment by appropriately applying  Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure optimum performance is realised for the benefit of the Department and, by extension, the organisation.
    • Lead the team according to Tharisa Minerals’ leadership principles and values throughout the entire employee life cycle (performance management, reward etc) to ensure, inter alia, a high-performance culture.
    • Provide technical support to the Geology Team, ensuring shifts integration optimisation efficiency and mining grade business improvement initiatives is achieved.

    Pit Geology

    • Design, manage and monitor the implementation of the pit face sampling strategy to support effective and efficient pit geology activities.
    • Verify ore-type pit contact marking is done, and all pit geological data is collected, recorded, interpreted, and communicated to the mining team to form part of any technical mining decisions.

    Reporting

    • Write mining geology reports daily, weekly, and monthly as required, including the Weekly Crusher Plant Feed report, to provide decisionmakers with an up-to-date view of geology-related mining activities in the pits.

    Resource Management

    • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
    • Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
    • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.
    • Manage ore stockpiles inventory levels to meet the demand and supply requirements of the mine.

    Reverse Circulation and Test holes Drilling

    • Design, manage and monitor the implementation of the Reverse Circulation (RC)/test-hole drilling strategy to achieve alignment with mining activities.
    • Manage and monitor activities related to geological test holes, RC planning, and drilling execution to ensure quality logging and sampling of test holes.
    • Establish and update all geological grade control procedures and work-instructions to maintain alignment with mining activities.

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Regularly liaise with other Technical Departments to ensure the latest resource information is made available for monthly evaluation.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science Honours Degree (NQF8)
    • Member of professional body (SACNASP- Pr.Sci.Nat)

    Job-specific experience:

    • A minimum of between eight to ten (8-10) years of mining experience, of which at least five (5) years must be in an open pit environment.
    • Minimum Five (5) years in Bushveld Complex Geology experience is advantageous.
    • Competency in Datamine Strat3d and Studio EM/RM, Sirovision, Deswik, Sable Datawarehouse, Ore Movement Policy System.
    • Valid Driving Licence.
    • Experience/Exposure on MS Dynamics F&O, Reporting tools: MS Power BI

    Environmental Officer

    Role Context

    Environmental Management

    • Accompany legal auditors during audits, ensuring no significant disruptions during audits processes and obtaining feedback from auditors, to ensure a smooth audit process and provision of required information.
    • Take action on obtaining and tracking environmental approvals and authorisations as required, to ensure all the necessary approvals are obtained within specified timelines with minimal delays.
    • Manage greenhouse gas (GHG) data collection and calculations, including liaising with consultants on GHG-related matters and monitoring the reduction of GHG emissions, to ensure accurate GHG data management and alignment between reduction targets and the approved reduction strategies.
    • Conduct audits and inspections of sister sites to ensure environmental compliance, to reduce violations and improve adherence to environmental standards within all sister sites.
    • Conduct regular environmental monitoring on sister sites and report on findings, to identify environmental issues and monitor the actions taken to address these issues.
    • Draft and review environmental presentations for various purposes, ensuring their accuracy and clarity by obtaining feedback on the quality and clarity of the presentations, to deliver effective and informative environmental presentations.
    • Maintain regular communication and engagement with relevant authorities, by monitoring all regulatory violations and obtaining feedback from authorities, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
    • Maintain and update monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for presentation purposes, including updating graphs and charts, to ensure the availability of the latest KPIs for accurate monitoring and informed decision-making.
    • Manage and monitor regular site inspections and environmental sampling and analysis are carried out, so as to monitor environmental conditions and compliance, and improve the overall environmental conditions and compliance.
    • Prepare environmental reports and track department performance against environmental key performance indicators and targets, to ensure the effective tracking of environmental performance.
    • Provide support in maintaining the ISO14001 standard by effectively monitoring key areas and conducting regular audits, to monitor ISO14001 certification maintenance, with audit reports showing compliance.
    • Demonstrate flexibility in handling changing environmental requirements and tasks, in order to adapt to evolving environmental needs, handling all change requirements with minimal disruptions.
    • Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, water management, greenhouse gas management, recycling, conservation, and renewable energy initiatives, by managing all environmental initiatives to improve pollution control, waste reduction, energy conservation, and sustainability.
    • Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices within Tharisa Minerals (TM), by adopting policies, practices and obtaining feedback from employees, to ensure the successful integration of environmental policies.
    • Raise awareness, at all levels of the organisation, about the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical, and social responsibility, to improve environmental consciousness with TM.
    • Conduct impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the TM's environmental risks and financial costs, to mitigate the identified risks and implement cost savings tactics.
    • Carry out inspections, investigations, resolve conflicts, and take appropriate action to address environmental issues, to ensure the timely resolution of conflicts and environmental issues.
    • Review and assess environmental reports/proposals to make recommendations based on environmental findings.
    • Provide technical advice on pollution and contaminant treatment and control technologies, to improve TM’s pollution treatment and control.
    • Identify, interpret and advise on environmental concerns and issues, to recommend alternatives for their mitigation and resolution.
    • Control and manage all aspects of mining environmental management related to water, waste, energy, emissions, biodiversity, land/soil, and rehabilitation issues, by ensuring comprehensive environmental management, to monitor and deliver on all specified environmental aspects with minimal issues.

    Data Analysis and Reporting

    • Collaborate with environmental consultants to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of environmental monitoring reports.
    • Interpret environmental reports to understand trends and implications for decision-making, to ensure informed decisions made based on insights from environmental reports.
    • Prepare and submit monthly reports for sister sites to track and communicate environmental performance, evaluating their performance against the approved key performance indicators and action plans, to monitor their overall environmental performance.
    • Collect and consolidate data for annual sustainability reporting, including but not limited to environmental and social performance data, to submit comprehensive and accurate sustainability reports.
    • Gather and submit data on all required legal online platforms as per specified intervals to meet regulatory requirements, to ensure timely and accurate data and documentation submissions to meet legal requirements.
    • Maintain an effective administration system to record all environmental information and keep records in line with environmental system requirements, to ensure records kept up to date and readily available for reference.
    • Effectively manage work schedules to meet reporting and task completion deadlines, to ensure the timely completion of tasks and reports.
    • Utilise environmental monitoring techniques, including computer modeling, digital mapping, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for effective data analysis and decision-making, to improve decision-making based on data analysis.
    • Collect, analyse, and interpret environmental data to inform decision-making and compliance, to enhance decisions based on data analysis and improve compliance with environmental standards. 

    Compliance Management

    • Schedule legal audits and provide all requested documentation for compliance purposes, to track and address action items resulting from legal audits, to ensure well-organised legal audits with action items addressed and the resolution of identified compliance issues.
    • Update the quarterly compliance report for the head office legal department, to ensure the reports are submitted on time with minimal discrepancies.
    • Enforce compliance with environmental regulations and standards on all sister sites, to ensure fewer instances of non-compliance and improved adherence, driving high compliance levels across sister sites.
    • Monitor compliance with environmental legislation, by staying up to date with relevant South African and international regulations related to mining and environmental management, to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations.
    • Conduct monitoring projects to support environmental studies and programs to develop guidelines and standards that will continuously drive environmental compliance within TM.

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the Manager.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Organise stakeholder engagement meetings in coordination with the Social and Labor Plan (SLP) and attend these meetings, to ensure active participation while obtaining stakeholder feedback.
    • Present approved environmental content, that is clear and informative, during stakeholder engagements and other relevant forums, to obtain feedback and comprehension of environmental content by stakeholders.
    • Coordinate public participation and consultations on environmental matters, by facilitating engagement with stakeholders, to ensure public participation and obtain stakeholder feedback.
    • Communicate with, and represent the environmental department with various stakeholders, including local government officials, external government agencies, industry representatives, consultants, non-governmental organisations, department staff, and the public, to ensure positive department representation and stakeholder engagement. 

    Resource Management

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 (NQF 4).
    • B Degree /National Diploma (NQF7) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or equivalent within the mining or other relevant industry. 

    Certifications

    • Environmental short course certification (i.e., ISO 14001 Management System, Environmental Law for Environmental Managers)
    • Registered/Candidate Environmental Scientist with the South African Counsil for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) (Advantageous).

    Job-specific experience:

    • Minimum of 2-3 years’ environmental, health and safety experience within the mining or similar industry
    • Knowledge and experience on the application and implementation of South African Environmental legislative regulations and laws.
    • Computer Literacy.
