    Control, Compliance & Ethics Manager Partner & Emerging Markets

    Reporting to: Head of CC&E Partner & Emerging Markets

    Category: L5

    CONTEXT

    Partner and Emerging Markets is a new business unit within Diageo Africa. It is focused on driving significant business growth and transformation outside our established in market companies. It covers 23 countries (across West and Central Africa) with a total population of over 230M and where our current business includes partnerships with local beer producers (predominantly BGI) and International Premium spirits agents/distributors.

    The focus of the business unit will be to build new businesses, initially in Cote d’Ivoire and Angola and to manage and evolve our existing partnerships. In doing this we will look to enter the mainstream spirits market with local production through new partnerships. This is a highly entrepreneurial business unit, operating across a broad and diverse set of geographies. The environment is dynamic and the agenda is exciting and ambitious with a number of strategic choices to be made from portfolio, to production, route to market and partnerships.

    PURPOSE

    Acting as support to the MD and market leaders to discharge their responsibilities to create an environment where risks are actively managed, and controls, compliance and ethics are at the heart of the business. This will enable Diageo to meet its ambition of being the world’s most trusted and respected consumer goods company.

    Qualification And Experience Required

    • University graduate or ACCA qualified. Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience post qualification
    • Fluent in French & English (Understanding of Portuguese a plus)
    • High level of personal integrity, and proven ability to ‘stand tall’ under pressure
    • Strong Project Management experience in the context of auditing
    • Track record of consistently delivering to deadlines & standards in a high-pressure environment.
    • Committed to achieving results.
    • Strong drive and energy, pro-active self-starter.
    • Able to work as part of a team and also with remote teams

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Takes active role in championing “doing the right thing” and coaching team members and other key stakeholders to adopt a culture of integrity in their businesses. Challenge existing ways of working and ensure controls and compliance remains a key business priority.
    • Implement Company’s process controls by embedding the Control Assurance and Risks Management (CARM) system across the markets and to manage external CARM & GAR audits as required.
    • Integration plans for Compliance & Ethics: Awareness, training and communication to bring Code to life. Progress reporting on C&E.
    • Manages market Risk Management Committee, Business Continuity Planning, and project risk management, including footprint, mitigation plans. Advice new business ventures team on potential risk areas
    • Advise new business ventures team on potential risk areas, play an active role in the design and development of a CC&E plan that will ensure new ventures / projects are compliant.
