Job Description

A great opportunity for an experienced Project Manager with large scale brown-fields projects experience within the power generations sector to secure a 2 year contract on this R 1Bn + refit and upgrade project. Prior power experience with specific exposure to pressure vessels, piping and steel works will be critical.

The Client

This South African engineering firm specialises in the design and erection of Structural, Mechanical & Piping projects specifically in the energy markets. This project entails the refit of a fossil fuelled power station encompassing high specification pressure vessels and confined areas making for difficult lift plans.

The role

Your responsibility is to plan and manage all project resources in order to deliver a world class project within budget and time constraints. You will play a key role in interfacing with the client ensuring their expectations are met and a long term business relationship is fostered

Responsibilities

• Formulating a project execution plan and establishing a progress monitoring system
• Initiating the preparation of the Project man-hour budget and reviewing the work Breakdown Structure & subdivisions supplied by controllers’ schedulers etc
• Ensuring that the project plan and budgets are prepared, and submitted for approval.
• Overseeing all project functions: Planning, Documentation, Budgets, Engineering, Construction & HR.
• Assist Ops Exec prepare the Engineering agreement
• Obtain client approval for the project code of accounts
• Liaise with the client and asses data to ensure quality requirements are addressed
• Liaise with the client reporting progress, any challenges whilst proposing corrective actions and comprehensively report and discuss any deviations to the original plan and budget.
• Ensure contractors and sub-contractors deliver according to scope of work.
• Support and participate in the training and development of employees. .
• Ensure that work is fairly distributed throughout the tea, and source skills to fill gaps.
• Ensure that costs are controlled against the budget and forecast.
• Ensure that all operations are in compliance with the Project Execution Manual
• Ensure effective communication both internally and externally

Requirements

• An Engineering or Construction qualification with 10+ years of project management experience specifically including boilers and high pressure piping. Previous experience with FIDIC form contracts will be is crucial as well as the ability to manage all stakeholders. South African citizens will be shown preference but this role is open to international applicants.
