    Facilities Manager

    The Role:

    The Facilities Manager will lead a combined operations and engineering team focused on maintaining and improving mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/controls, and life safety systems for the Tesla manufacturing plant in Buffalo NY. He/she will lead the facilities team to deliver utility systems to meet production ramp milestones. Additional responsibilities will include the professional development of staff, creation of business processes, and improvement of performance metrics. The Facilities Manager will report to the VP of Infrastructure Development.

    Responsibilitie

    • Create and promote a safe working environment
    • Provide strategic leadership, foster collaboration across organizations, and direct the daily operations of the Facilities team
    • Measure performance against key performance indicators. Establish necessary plans to meet and exceed goals.
    • Manage a team of 5 - 10 engineers and up to 40 or more technicians to achieve departmental goals via appropriate allocation of workload and effective resource management
    • Drive operational excellence actions that engrain discipline and execution within and across the Facilities Operations organization
    • Identify and drive improvements in business systems/processes that reduce waste, continuously improve the quality of operations, and prepare the site for world class execution
    • Oversee construction activities through all phases of the project life cycle, ensuring quality projects with lowest total costs of ownership are delivered and integrated into sustained long-term operations
    • Supervise and oversee the activities of a group of external suppliers totaling 10 – 50 with budget implications of $1M - $2M
    • Provide daily interactions and customer support to our local and international manufacturing business partners
    • Support diverse community requirements and interface with government representatives

    Requirements

    • BS/MS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or evidence of equivalent exceptional ability, PE preferred but not required
    • Minimum 15 years’ experience in facilities design, facilities operations, construction, tool install
    • Prior experience leading engineers and technicians, as well as managing a diverse group of external contractors
    • Prior industry experience in semiconductor or solar PV manufacturing is preferred
    • Experience with factory and enterprise IT system implementation a plus
    • Understanding of LEAN concepts and six-sigma
    • Able and willing to routinely travel between US factories and possible international travel
    • Experience of dealing with international partners/customers and local government agencies and representatives
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and customer service skills required
