    HR Manager

    Job description

    Based: South Africa, Midrand

    This role operates within our South African business to provide HR leadership and expertise supporting the business strategy for our activities in South Africa.

    The role support the HR Programs and procedures implementation across the business, ensuring fair and consistent application and minimising risk to the Company. This will be a stand-alone HR role at our Midrand site (Johannesburg region) reporting into the EMEA HR Director based in France.

    The role will support 130 employees.

    The Company in South Africa has an administrative team to manage the transactional activities.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Support and coach managers to enable them to effectively manage their teams.
    • In conjunction with the Management team, ensure organisational design and resource capability are in place in South Africa to enable achievement of business goals.
    • Coordinate local recruitment working closely, ensuring headcount control and workforce planning.
    • Drive the current HR practices in South Africa ensuring compliance with South African regulations and internal consistency. Recommend any changes if requested.
    • Stay current with employment legislation to ensure compliance and provide credible advice. Is responsible to protect the Company from any claim in HR subjects.
    • Drive the McCormick SA BBBEE Strategy
    • Work in partnership with business managers to ensure effective management of employee relations issues by providing pragmatic HR solutions which meet business needs.
    • Act as contact for employees, to provide professional, pragmatic and effective advice.
    • Build/maintain good dialogue with local unions with the support of the management team
    • Manage all labour relations functions, including negotiations, grievance resolution and arbitrations.
    • Ensure that the right plans are in place to develop people according to business needs, talent management and budget (training, development plan).
    • Make compensation analysis and recommendation in line with RSA market
    • Manage all McCormick SA Provident Fund (Chairperson of Fund) together with Alexander Forbes.
    • Manage all McCormick SA 3rd Party contracts for HR & Facilities
    • Put in place the relevant internal communication routines with employees: general meetings, team briefs, local organisation announcements etc.
    • Progressively implement HR Programmes aligned with the EMEA expectations.

    PERSON PROFILE

    • First degree (any discipline) & postgraduate qualification in Human Resources.
    • 8 Years’ experience as HR generalist in a progressive HR organisation
    • Proven experience in similar HR manager role in an FMCG, multi-national, manufacturing company.
    • Strong change management skills.
    • Employee and industrial relations experience with demonstrated success in negotiations with unions.
    • In-depth knowledge of employment law & HR practices for South Africa with a solid track record in managing/advising on complex/sensitive legal issues as well as considering the impact of new legislation and devising new HR policies and procedures.
    • Experience of building development and training plans.
    • Strong personal and team leadership skills.
    • Ability to influence without formal authority at all levels of organization.
    • Ability to handle complexity across multi-cultural and cross functional borders in a matrix organization.
    • Good balance between : Results oriented/People oriented.
    • Structured and well organized.
    • Good analytical skills.
    • Self-starter, able to work remotely from line manager.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills across all levels and cross functionally.
    • Strong team worker locally and internationally, Ability to work collaboratively and maintain a positive outlook, even under pressure.
    • Flexible to change and embrace new initiatives.
    • Right balance between strategic thinking and execution.
    • Mature attitude with the ability to work remotely from direct leadership.
    • Fluent English and other languages as a plus.
    • Ability to travel outside of South Africa
