    IT Manager

    Job description

    Our client is looking for a hands-on IT Manager to join their team in a very exciting time in their progression on a 3 year fixed contract. The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing and maintaining the IT/ Network environment, interacting with all parts of the business and providing support to ensure achievement of high levels of productivity.

    Key responsibilities and accountabilities

    • Implementation of the Company IT Philosophy & Strategy Implementation of the Company Operating Model as it applies to the IT environment. Providing efficient and effective IT solutions to the business. Managing the relationship and contract with the primary outsourced system provider. Managing the in-sourced development team(s), Business analysts and testing staff. Managing the interface with the centralised Company infrastructure area. Collaborating closely and integrating systems with the other company branded entities within the company and aligning with group standards (e.g. Company IT Philosophy).
    • Stakeholder relationship management. Process Ownership and accountability for the design, development and successful implementation of Institute’s business and ancillary systems. Ensure compliance to Company IT governance and legal compliance including reporting to the national governance structures. Participate in the design and application of a process to gather organisational feedback regarding the service delivery of IT in the business unit. Identify, monitor and manage IT risks.
    • Ensure compliance to Company IT strategy, architectural frameworks and agreed technical principles in all solutions and platforms developed and maintained for the business unit. Co-ordinate effective and efficient solution development processes that incorporate cross-functional business solutions. Participate in research of trends and best practices to ensure data architecture is aligned to global bench-marking standards. Co-ordinate and manage IT infrastructure or shared services provided by central IT (I&O) or any other internal IT service provider. Ensure business continuity from the context of IT practices Perspective: Finance Provide input on income and expenditure budgeting to prepare financial forecasts.
    • Client Services Liaison with stakeholders, heads of operations, specialists, service providers and business clients to ensure effective and efficient process delivery and client satisfaction to all. Contribute to a service culture which builds rewarding relationships, proposes innovations and allows others to provide exceptional client service. Continuously assess the quality of client satisfaction and service delivery. The establishment and maintenance of a high level of a culture of organisational co-operation in order to ensure a professional service delivery. Contribute to the competitive edge of IT in the company through external networking and benchmarking in industry and national forums. The building and maintenance of an internal network of relationships with business management in the various units. Liaison with stakeholders, operations executives, specialists and other functional owners. Ensure satisfactory delivery of Service Level Agreements.
    • People Management: Provide an efficient and informative mentoring / coaching function. Active resource planning incorporating all HR practices. Compile succession plans for key positions/skills. Ensures optimal performance of both individuals and teams in order to achieve business objectives. Participate in the communication of a meaningful strategic context to guide and direct operational best practice and continuous improvement. Engage with appropriate interventions to ensure continuous professional development. Apply recruitment and retention processes for own staff. Apply performance management processes for own staff. Identify, define, communicate and obtain buy-in for performance expectations based on industry best practice remuneration guidelines.

    Education and Experience

    • Post graduate degree in Information Technology or Technical Diploma in Computer Science
    • 5 - 8 years’ relevant experience in IT of which 2-3 years at management level
    • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems
    • Expertise in data centre management and data governance
    • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation
    • Ability to manage personnel
