Advisor, Legal at TransUnion

TransUnion is currently recruiting for a dynamic Legal Advisor to provide group-wide specialist, relevant and quality legal advice and services to all TransUnion businesses. To identify long term risk exposure to support the business effort in managing and minimizing potential risk by interpreting and evaluating legal information including the drafting of related contracts.

What You'll Bring

• Provision of business-focused legal services and assistance to the African operations of TransUnion Africa (Pty) Ltd and its subsidiaries, and assisting international head office based in Chicago;
• Negotiation and drafting of agreements, proposals, tender documents and any other document of a legal/binding/potentially risk or cost intensive nature;
• Management of litigation matters including settlement negotiations, instructions to attorneys to defend matters; mitigation of TransUnion’s risk and costs exposure;
• Provision of advice including assistance in respect of compliance, corporate investigations, including drafting of communications, review of preliminary and findings;
• Representation of the entities at meetings with industry, regulatory and/or other bodies and management of any disputes receive from the various bodies;
• Conducting and advising on general negotiations;
• Review and final sign off on legal matters including commercial agreements, all new product development and legal related matters;
• Review and legal sign off on external communications; and
• Relationship management, training and reporting.

Impact You'll Make

• We are looking for a minimum LLB Degree with at least six to seven years post-qualification experience.
• General commercial and legal experience at a large commercial law firm or corporation within a highly regulated industry.
• Experience in the following areas of law is necessary:
  • Consumer protection and privacy law, NCA, intellectual property, technology, e-commerce privacy, credit reporting law, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Extensive complex contract negotiation and drafting experience and dispute resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks and priorities continuously.
  • Critical strategic thinking skills, ability to rapidly assess issues and associated risk and ability to make critical decisions in a fast paced environment are essential.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand documents such as laws, business documents, system documents, company policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and with peers and management on all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written, verbal and negotiating skills as well as interface effectively with all levels of management and present a fitting corporate image to the press and public. This position requires travel.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
