Applications Engineer - Johannesburg at Howden

What needs to be done?

• Key Account Management: Build and maintain relationships with key customers
• Managing Tenders: Efficient management and preparation of the tender process (enquiry, risks, contracts, costs and submission of documents) to be completed in line with client specifications and in accordance with Howden standards.
• Applications Engineering: Provide solutions to address customer process and applications needs. Carry out concept designs and process optimisation of air and gas handling systems / processes. Prepare proposals in accordance with client specifications and plant requirement.
• Commercial: Participate in negotiating commercial terms and conditions with clients to ensure that agreements with clients are reached within Howden’s acceptable commercial & risk management guidelines. Negotiate commercial terms & conditions with technology & licence suppliers to ensure that the terms agreed secure Howden’s business interests. Lead the handover of contracts to the Projects department.
• Marketing: Responsible for the effective marketing of company products and technologies to ensure the conversion of a tender into a sale conducted in accordance with company procedure.
• Technology: Learn the various Howden products and technologies to have a broad knowledge of our product offering for proposals to customers.
• Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls. Adhere to environmental, health and safety standards to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

What do you need to bring?

• BSc/ BEng /BTech Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• 5 years engineering design experience within an industrial environment.
• 3 years experience in a project management environment
• 3 years experience in tender preparation and contract negotiations.
• Experience in power generation equipment (boilers, air-heaters, mills, etc.)
• Customer-facing experience and strong communication skills a must.
• Competent in visual training sessions (Internally and externally)
• Proficiency in MS Office.
