Assistant Manager: Refuse and Cleansing at Nelson Mandela Bay Metro

Qualifications and experience required:

• National Diploma/B. Tech in Environmental Health/Operations Management/ Environmental Management/Waste Management or Environmental Engineering.
• Registration with a professional body will be an added advantage.
• Computer literacy – Office applications.
• A valid Code B driver’s licence.
• Five to seven years’ relevant work experience at managerial level in coordinating and controlling workforce undertaking Solid Waste Management Services.

Job purpose:

• Managing, coordinating and controlling the key performance areas and outcomes of the Refuse and Cleansing Section of the Waste Management Branch associated with the storage, collection, transportation, transfer and disposal of domestic, garden, industrial, trade and special collections of refuse as well as the cleansing of streets, public open spaces, beaches and public conveniences in a designated area through the performance of specific management functions such as the development of short, medium and long term plans, review, interpretation and implementation of legislative requirements including law enforcement, community education and awareness campaigns, management of provision of essential refuse and cleansing services, the performance of personnel functions including training, discipline, conflict management and performance appraisals and performing specific administrative functions associated with the functionality.
• As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
