Assistant Manager - Tax Consulting at Mazars

Purposes of the job:

• To carry out research relating to a variety of tax issues (covering Income Tax, Value Added Tax – knowledge of Customs and Excise will be advantageous) and to compile appropriate reports / opinions / letters and other documents under the overall responsibility of the senior team members or partners; and to review reports / opinions / letters and other documents prepared by tax consultants.

Duties and Responsibilities    

• Conduct research relating to tax treatment
• Lead, delegate, monitor and review work and development of Tax Consultants
• Training of staff and partners on tax-related issues
• Prepare and write tax related reports / opinions / letters
• Tax calculations and reconciliations
• Tax administration and dispute resolution (including objections, appeals and VDP’s)
• Budget management in respect of client engagement
• Manage individual productivity
• Write articles and other client communication material
• Self-training and development and group participation
• Direct/Indirect Tax Reviews and Due Diligence

Minimum Requirements    

• Minimum of 3 - 5 years related tax consulting experience
• Accounting or law degree and a tax qualification (or studying towards such qualification)
• Relevant postgraduate qualification would be advantageous
• Computer literate – proficient in Excel, Word and Power Point
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• People management
• SAIT accreditation
• SAICA/SAIPA articles would be advantageous
• Knowledge of excise taxes would be advantageous
• English proficient
