    Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer (College of Business and Economics: School of Management: Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management)

    Job Description:

    • An Associate Professor with Behavioural Science as an academic underpinning, both at Undergrade and Postgraduate level. The person must be able to carry out duties to promote and lead Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes to be globally recognised as pioneers in the field of Industrial Psychology and Human Resources Management and create a visible, unique, academic footprint, especially in Africa.
    • We are a team of self-directed, creative, dedicated professionals who keep pushing the frontiers of knowledge. If you have a passion for research and teaching Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management, this department may be the place for you. 
    • We are particularly interested in applicants with specialist research and teaching interests in quantitative research methods, career psychology, and industrial psychology (in general).

    Responsibilities: 

    If you join our department, you will:

    • Teach Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, and learners from our client organisations.
    • Lecturing face-to-face and ONLINE in related modules at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.
    • Supervising Postgraduate student research in various areas of Industrial Psychology and Human Resources Management, steering research to enable economic and social upliftment to the greater good of the South African population.
    • Conduct and publish your own research within a research focus area of your professional interest.
    • Presenting research at national and international conferences.
    • Academic leadership in the coordination of the various qualifications in the department.
    • Participating in internal and external service rending and social impact programmes and activities and interventions relating to leadership.
    • Serving on internal department, school, college university committees.
    • Engaging in activities that will promote global department excellence and stature.
    • Forge and maintain external professional networks.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Doctoral degree (NQF 10) in Human Resources Management or its associated specialised fields.
    • Professional registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa / South African Board for People Practices.
    • Proven record of teaching experience at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.
    • Proven track record of successful Postgraduate supervision of Postgraduate students (Master’s and Doctoral) to completion.
    • Proven track record of research publications in accredited peer-reviewed scientific journals.
    • Proven track record of academic leadership.

    Recommendations:

    • Proven record of engagement with the scholarship of teaching, e.g., teaching evaluation or relevant portfolio.
    • Innovative teaching techniques incorporating technology.
    • NRF rating would be an added advantage.
    • Well-developed quantitative and/or qualitative methodology skills.
    • Advanced knowledge in research methodology and statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R, Amos, Structuring Equation Modelling).
    • Representation on and involvement in relevant Professional Societies.
    • A growing / established research network.
    • Evidence of successful fundraising (e.g. research grants) to support research activities.

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Well-developed quantitative and qualitative methodology skills.
    • Substantial published articles in accredited, peer-reviewed journals.
    • Supervision of Postgraduate research projects.
    • Teaching in multidisciplinary Industrial Psychology.
    • Good leadership and collaborative skills.
    • Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • An excellent ability to speak and write in English.
