    BDO Wave - Financial Interest Analyst (Port Elizabeth)

    Description

    • The Financial Interest Analyst process supports the firm's ethics and independence monitoring programme by conducting first-line compliance reviews of partners' and employees' financial interests. The role is responsible for reviewing supporting documentation, identifying potential independence concerns, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring reviews are completed in accordance with regulatory and firm requirements. The individual will work closely with senior team members in the UK who will perform secondary reviews and make final decisions on potential breaches.

    Requirements
    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct first reviews of financial interest submissions received through the Financial Interest Review system.
    • Review investment documentation against the firm's Prohibited Entities List (PEL) and the BDO Investment Tracking System (BITS) records.
    • Verify that submitted documentation agrees to declarations made by the individual under review.
    • Identify discrepancies, incomplete submissions and potential independence issues and follow up with individuals to obtain missing information.
    • Complete quality review checklists and maintain clear working paper documentation to support conclusions reached.
    • Record findings, actions taken and matters requiring further consideration by the secondary reviewer.
    • Track overdue reviews and support escalation procedures in accordance with established processes.
    • Monitor and follow up on required updates to investments held within BITS.
    • Assist with monthly monitoring activities, including review population tracking, verification of invitations issued and replacement of ineligible review selections where required.
    • Respond to queries received through the Financial Interest Review mailbox and escalate complex issues appropriately.
    • Support continuous improvement of review processes and documentation standards.

    Skills and Experience Required

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to review documentation accurately and consistently.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to correspond professionally with partners and staff members.
    • Good analytical skills with the ability to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, and potential compliance concerns.
    • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple reviews and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Experience working with confidential or sensitive information and exercising appropriate discretion.
    • Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain high-quality documentation standards.
    • Comfortable working within a regulated, compliance, risk or professional services environment.
    • Previous experience in audit, risk, compliance, independence, quality management, or a similar control function would be advantageous but is not essential.
    • Ability to recognise when matters require escalation and exercise sound judgement in doing so.
