Business Analyst at Santam Insurance

What will you do?

Santam Experience (SE) department has a position available for a Business Analyst based in Johannesburg. We are looking for an agile person who will be able to help bridge the gap and improve efficiency between business and IT. The Business Analyst  will be responsible for to gathering information, documenting processes, and confirming the final documents with users, improving processes, conducting research and analysing data in order to come up with solutions to business problems and help to introduce these systems to business and clients. The successful incumbent will act as the key interface between the users and SE Clusters’ project managers.

• Evaluating business processes, anticipating requirements, uncovering areas for improvement, and developing and implementing solutions.
• Determining operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats.
• Constructing workflow charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing specifications.
• Creating informative, actionable and repeatable reporting that highlights relevant business trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Identifying and establishing scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
• Clearly identifying project stakeholders and collaborating with project sponsors to determine project scope and vision.
• Conducting interviews to gather business or client’s requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.
• Researching, reviewing, and analysing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.
• Eliciting, analysing, specifying, and validating the business needs of stakeholders, be they client, intermediary, suppliers or end users.
• Working with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.
• Participating in the QA of purchased solutions to ensure features and functions have been enabled and optimised.
• Participating in the selection of any requirements documentation software solutions that the organization may opt to use that will have an impact in the experience.
• Analysing and verifying requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
• Developing and utilizing standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications.
• Translating conceptual customer requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/project team.
• Creating process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team.
• Developing and conducting peer reviews of the business requirements to ensure that requirement specifications are correctly interpreted
• Assisting with the interpretation of customer requirements into feasible options, and communicating these back to the business stakeholders.
• Managing and tracking the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle; enforcing and redefining as necessary.
• Communicating changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements — verbally or through written documentation — to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are understood.
• Providing guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members.
• Monitoring deliverables and ensuring timely completion of projects.

Qualifications & Experience

• Matric;
• Relevant Tertiary IT Qualification or Certificate/Diploma in Business Process Analysis from industry recognized training institution;
• 3 - 5 years’ experience as Business Analyst;
• 2 - 3 years’ experience in the Short-Term Insurance Industry; and
• Extensive experience in Technical Writing.
