    Campus Facilities Manager - Johannesburg

    Main Purpose:

    • The Campus Facilities Manager (CFM) will be responsible for providing and managing an integrated property and facilities management service to ensure a fit for purpose environment with the minimum of downtime, relating to supporting and facilitating the University’s academic, teaching, research, sport and residential program in so far as it is practical and reasonable relating to resources provided.

    Brief Description        
    Responsibilities:

    • Developing annual operational maintenance and the upkeep of plans for his/her assigned Campus in relation to the requirements of Faculties, Schools and Departments located within his/her area of responsibility inclusive of preventative, breakdown and emergency maintenance requirements of such facilities and equipment assigned to him/her.
    • Develop, implement and administer annual capital infrastructure equipment asset management plans relating to the proper servicing and maintenance of capital infrastructure equipment to ensure maximum life cycle and optimum operational costs.
    • In collaboration with his/her customer, plan the implementation of any refurbishment, alteration and/or other construction projects to ensure business continuity and least interruption to the academic and research activities of the University, within time and budget requirements agreed with the customer, in so far as it is practical and reasonable.
    • In consultation with the Manager: Grounds and Waste Management ensure that the University’s gardens and sports fields and facilities are fit for purpose and adequately maintained in so far as is practical and reasonable, and that the waste management of hazardous, non-hazardous and garden waste is attended to by the appointed service provider in accordance with the approved Service Legal Agreements.
    • Ensuring his/her assigned Campus is adequately lit and such lighting system is maintained to acceptable standards to provide for a safe environment after hours, in so far as it is practical and reasonable.
    • Coordinate and/or project manage the implementation and /or installation of intruder alarm, system, CCTV and access control systems on behalf of and or in consultation with the Director: Campus Control or his/her authorised representative.
    • In consultation with the Services Divisions Contract Manager, ensure that buildings are cleaned to an acceptable standard and that hygiene  regulations are met across his/her assigned Campus. Any contraventions to the aforesaid will be reported to the Services Division for their action.
    • In collaboration with the University’s Central Audio-Visual Department ensure that all teaching equipment installed in the lecture theatres, seminar rooms and tutorial venues is maintained and fit for purpose with minimum downtime, in order to accommodate the requirements of the University’s teaching and research program. Teaching and audio-visual facilities will be reviewed periodically to ensure that the technology is replaced and/or upgraded to support changed in teaching methodology.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • Degree (NQF Level 7) in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering or NQF Level 7 qualification in any related Facilities Management Qualification or Project Management would also be considered.
    • Computer literacy in full MS Office Suite, MS Projects.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills

    • Financial management, budgeting and procurement experience.
    • Contract management
    • Strong leadership qualities, ability to motivate and manage a team.
    • Conflict management.

    Required Years of work-related experience:

    • 8 - 10 years in a Managerial Position

    Desirable Requirements:

    • Working knowledge of electrical and heating ventilation, air conditioning systems, strong project management experience, experience in infrastructure risk management and an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety.
