    Director: Rewards, Benefits & Payroll

    Reporting to the Executive Director: Human Resources, the Director: Rewards, Benefits & Payroll will manage and coordinate policies, processes, staff and to:

    • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of the University Payroll
    • Ensure the University’s compliance with all payroll tax, levy and other payroll-related legislation
    • Perform required payroll accounting tasks. 
    • Proactively manage the Payroll Delivery, Benefits Administration, Rewards Strategy, Payroll Budget, Management & HR Systems Management.

    In addition to the above, the role of the Director: Rewards, Benefits & Payroll entails:  

    • Leading and managing the Rewards, Benefits and Payroll functions and ensuring that UWC manages compensation within the budget parameters and successfully delivers the monthly Payroll 
    • Managing the rewards policy and strategy implementation
    • Ensuring relevant salary/survey data is available for rewards management
    • Initiating procedures governing staff salaries, benefits and related issues
    • Overseeing/driving ERP systems optimisation, explicitly focusing on delivering e-HR solutions
    • Maintenance of job survey database to ensure proper benchmarking and pricing of jobs  
    • Ensuring data input for both survey updates as well as salary increases
    • Analysing and reporting on costs against Budget
    • Engaging all stakeholders to enable effective tracking of staff costs
    • Liaising with senior management, IT support, HR staff, Finance Department, etc. and submitting Budget Management recommendations

    Minimum Requirements

    • For this key leadership role in the Human Resources Department, we seek an accomplished Rewards, Benefits, Payroll & HR Systems specialist who will contribute substantially as a strategic role player to the HR operations.
    • The successful candidate must have a Post-Graduate qualification, among others, in Financial Management at an NQF Level 8
    • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in senior management 
    • Expert knowledge of all components impacting budget control and payroll delivery – from appointments to exits 
    • A sound understanding of and experience in HR Payroll Systems
    • Accreditation by the South African Rewards Association will be an added advantage/ Certified Payroll Practitioner (SAPA) designation/ SARA professional designation or an alternative accounting/payroll professional qualification
    • Demonstrable experience of BCEA, EE, SDLA, Income Tax Act, COIDA and other relevant legislation
    • Demonstrable experience of relevant payroll systems such as ITS, SAP, PeopleSoft

    Added advantage:

    • Experience of managing a complex payroll or payroll budget within Higher Education
    • Relevant working experience gained in a tertiary educational environment in South Africa
