    Emerging Clinician Scientist and Emerging Scientist

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Establishing or growing an independent research programme in the field of expertise.
    • Publishing high-quality research outputs and disseminating findings nationally and internationally.
    • Applying for external grant funding to build a sustainable programme.
    • Supervising postgraduate students and contributing to the development of junior researchers.
    • Building productive collaborations within the Faculty and externally.
    • Contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (maximum 15% effort where applicable).
    • Participating in academic assessment and appropriate Faculty activities.
    • Supporting translation of research into policy, practice, innovation and societal benefit.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicants must:

    • Hold a PhD, or for Clinician Scientists, demonstrate an equivalent doctoral-level record of scholarly achievement.
    • Hold a specialist degree in a relevant clinical discipline where applicable. A sub-specialist qualification will be advantageous.
    • Meet the criteria for appointment at Senior Lecturer / Researcher level based on Faculty staffing and promotion criteria.
    • Demonstrate clear potential and trajectory for promotion to Reader / Associate Professor level within three years.
    • Have a strong and growing record of publications, grantsmanship potential, and postgraduate supervision or co-supervision.
    • Demonstrate evidence of emerging national or international recognition in their field.
    • Be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa if South African based. Non-South Africans may apply but may be exempt from patient service requirements.
