    Employee Relations Specialist P001614

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Individual relationships:

    • Execute processes, policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with relevant NWU policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance of the NWU with labour legislation and including, but not limited to:
    • Disciplinary procedure
    • Abscondment procedure
    • Suspension procedure
    • Intoxication procedure
    • Procedure for personal searches of employees
    • Reporting acts of dishonesty to the SAPS
    • Procedure for managing incapacity
    • Employee grievance procedure
    • Harassment procedure 
    • Human Rights
    • Gender Equality
    • Labour legislation amendments
    • Social Media
    • Execute procedures as per the Behavioural Manual in joint accountability collaboration with the HR Practitioner
    • Execute CCMA matters in terms of the Labour Relations Act rules.
    • Provide assistance in the execution of Labour Court matters.

    Collective relationships:

    • Execute processes, policies, procedures, and practices to ensure legal compliance of the NWU with labour legislation while ensuring sound relationship environment between unions, management and employees.
    • Assist the Director: Employee Relations in the execution of negotiations or consultations with recognised unions as required by labour legislation when needed, such as Section 189 negotiations, etc.
    • Execute processes and procedures as per the Behavioural Manual.
    • Execute CCMA matters in terms of the Labour Relations Act rules.
    • Provide assistance in the execution of Labour Court matters.

    Communication and Training:

    • Execute training of employees on processes, policies, procedures and practices including, but not limited to:
    • Disciplinary procedure
    • Abscondment procedure
    • Suspension procedure
    • Intoxication procedure
    • Procedure for personal searches of employees
    • Reporting acts of dishonesty to the SAPS
    • Procedure for managing incapacity.
    • Employee grievance procedure
    • Harassment procedure
    • Human Rights
    • Gender Equality
    • Labour legislation amendments
    • Social Media
    • Implement and maintain policies and procedures on an on-going basis.

    Human Rights:

    • Execute the arrangement of annual seminars / awareness campaigns are arranged – involve the South African Human Rights Commission.
    • Perform all administrative tasks associated with the NWU HRC.
    • Manage all Human Rights violations reported to the HRC.
    • Recordkeeping of all violations.
    • Assist the Director: Employee Relations with the annual report to Council.

    Records Management:

    • Ensure that all NWU records (as listed in the NWU file plan and relating to the activities of Employee Relations Unit  are properly recorded and protected.
    • Service as liaison / communication line between HR Practitioners  and colleagues in department.

    Execution of ad hoc tasks:

    • Execute ad hoc tasks as assigned by Line Management or any member of Institutional Management.

    Leadership:

    • Stakeholder relationship development and effectiveness.
    • Regulatory and statutory compliance and reporting.
    • Process and system utilisation and adherence.
    • Personal effectiveness, wholeness, and development.
    • Values-based behaviour leadership and personal compliance.

    Minimum requirements

    • A legal degree or similar qualification or HR degree with labour relations as field of specialisation (NQF 7/8)
    • A minimum of 5 years’ extensive experience in ER functions.
