Engineering Manager_Construction - JHB at Seriti

The Role 

The purpose of this role is to be primarily responsible for managing all Engineering aspects for Seriti Green and its portfolio of projects under development, construction and operation.

Key responsibilities include

Design Management

• Ensure the Civil, Electrical and SCADA designs of projects are progressed in a timely manner such that the various interface requirements are met
• Review the design for compliance with the Principals Requirements in collaboration with the Owners Engineer.
• Management of the engineering design interfaces

Quality Assurance and Compliance

• Develop technical, quality and governance standards and procedures for the Organisation.
• Build and maintain systems to ensure continuous improvement, quality assurance, reliability, redundancy, efficiency and safety in design.
• Review proposed Project Quality Procedures to ensure compliance with Internal Quality Systems, Industry Standards and Regulations.
• Identify key inspections, witness points, and conduct inspections of the works.
• Ensure required inspections/tests are conducted in line with plans and quality documentation is provided.
• Undertake reviews to ensure manufacturing and shipping works comply with contractual requirements and laws.
• Manage contractors' Project Quality Plans and ITC/ITP's

Management and Liaison

• Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team across organisations.
• Provide, through the engineering team, guidance and support across subsidiary companies in the Seriti Green Organisation throughout project life phases from inception to commercial operation.
• Conduct regular site visits to verify work performance, contract adherence, and quality.
• Maintain close liaison with development and site teams to support in design, contracting, commissioning, reliability, maintenance, performance, safety and regulatory compliance.
• Technical support during handover of assets to Seriti Green Asset Management team, including quality and operation documents.

Contract Management

• Support all project contract requirements and ensure adherence to Company policies.
• Initiate and manage contractual claims with contract manager as required.
• Lead payment and variation certification process and handle contractual disputes when they arise.
• Assist in monitoring financial data related to contract performance, labour, costs, gross margin, and profits.
• Support monthly cost recording and processing.
• Provide timely Project Reports in line with project and company engineering requirements.

Commercial support

• Assist in estimating by providing guidance on costings and commercial matters.

Education & Experience

• Industrial/Utility Plant Experience with PV and Wind Farm Construction Experience being advantageous.
• Grid Code Compliance
• Sound technical and commercial understanding of the Engineering and/or the Construction Industry
• Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in the utilities supply and installation environment
• Good understanding of the appropriate South African Legislation
• Desirable to have renewable project delivery experience in South Africa.
• Desirable to have substantial knowledge of international standards for utility scale installations, in specific IEC
• Demonstrated high level of commercial acumen,
• Demonstrated capacity to work for a multitude of internal and external clients with conflicting interests and priorities. Demonstrated capacity to influence outcomes.
• Demonstrated capacity to develop and manage relationships to ensure outcomes are achieved as harmoniously as possible.
• Demonstrated capacity to work both autonomously and within the team environment; use initiative; solve problems through analytical thinking; & make decisions within an intense corporate and/or construction environment.
• Experience with environmental and risk mitigation controls.
