A Grade 12 (Senior Certificate), with preferably 1-2 years’ experience in either Pest Control, Health Education, Water Sampling, or Law Enforcement.
Registration as an Environmental Health Assistant with HPCSA or application for exam to enable registration as an Environmental Health Assistant with HPCSA within twelve months of appointment under own arrangements.
PC Literate.
No Criminal Record.
Valid Code EB driver’s license.
Physically fit and able-bodied.
Prepared to work on weekends and at night, if required.
Key Performance Areas
Assist the Environmental Health Practitioner in performing duties related to Water Quality Management, Food Control, Health Surveillance of premises, Environmental Pollution Control, Vector Control, Chemical Safety, and Waste Management.
Assist in the enforcement of legislation, Council policies, and Bylaws relevant to Environmental Health.
Conduct Vector Control activities, including surveillance, destruction, and investigation of complaints.
Assist in the delivery of Environmental Health education programs and special campaigns.
Perform administrative duties, including report writing, to ensure sound administrative procedures for effective service delivery.
Identify and report environmental health factors such as overgrown canals or water streams causing stagnation of water and mosquito breeding.
Follow up and investigate Communicable Diseases cases, e.g., TB defaulters.
