    General Manager: Payment and Fintech Ecosystem

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
    One of the key pillars of MTN Digital & Fintech strategy is to ensure a rapid expansion of its Fintech ecosystem with a focus on 3 business verticals/segments.

    • Merchant Payment and retailer segment (growing the number of active MoMoPay merchants, users and usages).
    • B2B, B2C payments and SMME segment (growing the number of SMMEs and companies using MoMo to digitize their payments across MTN footprint, secure and manage a growing number of global strategic partnerships with companies that have pan African footprint).
    • E-commerce for sellers and buyers segments (establishing an e-commerce value proposition for merchants as well as launching a C2B Marketplace for Mobile Money merchants and consumers).
    • The role is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy, as well as working the MTN Fintech operations in continuously growing their respective ecosystem usages, use cases and participants.
    • As part of the leadership team, the GM is also responsible to contribute to MTN’s overall strategic goals, to achieve profitable growth through accelerated business opportunities and investments.
    • The GM: Payments and Ecosystem reports to the Executive Digital and Fintech Business Development.

    MTN is entering a new phase in its development where operational and commercial excellence has become critical for success. The urgency for change has become more heightened amidst increased competitive intensity across all markets in which MTN operates. The GM, Payments and Ecosystems must therefore ensure the successful delivery in context of:

    An expertise-based multicultural organisation.

    • A dynamic and evolving field of Telecommunication.
    • Revolutionary workforce practices which are bringing together global labour markets.
    • Management of executive and local shareholder expectations across MTN and its OpCos.
    • Achievement of top quartile operating efficiency and effectiveness through scale and common policies and processes.
    • Dynamic legal and regulatory environment.
    • Convergence in markets and exploration of non-traditional revenue streams requiring complex interpretation and structuring.
    • Evolving industry sector constantly presenting new challenges and opportunities to the core businesses.
    • Rapid expansion of MTN Fintech ecosystem, in terms of size, products, customers and geographic distribution.

    The role will be mainly responsible for the following deliverables:

    • Overseeing the growth of Fintech business customer segments including retailers, SMMEs, large enterprise through product and value proposition. enhancement as well as establishing strong business customer engagement and management in the respective operation.
    • Successfully evolving MTN Fintech value proposition for Business through enhancing capabilities and evolving the product to open loop payments, loyalty. and merchant tooling.
    • Successfully establishing and deploying MTN e-commerce business.
    • Ecosystem growth (merchants, SMEs, Interoperability and open loop payments).
    • Revenue growth (payment, business segments, ecommerce).
    • Product development, management and implementation (Payment, 4Business products, e-commerce, B2B, B2C, Government payments value propositions).

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
    Education:

    • Minimum of 4-year tertiary degree (Economics/Business/Technology/Marketing)
    • MBA or Masters (advantageous).

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 8 to 10 years or more of Senior Management Experience in Fintech, payment, e-commerce, FMCG or Banking.
    • Significant experience in Payment.
    • Experience in E-commerce.
    • Exceptional leadership and management skills; track record of developing marketing and sales strategy for mass consumer markets and or merchant/business segment, building relationships across teams and key stakeholders to achieve goals.
    • Prior experience in strategic planning and innovation management.
    • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-driven and ability to motivate a fast-paced team.
    • Understanding global/emerging markets advantageous.
    • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies, with experience in managing multinational – multidisciplinary – multicultural teams.
    • Pan Africa multi-cultural experience is advantageous.
    • Attitude of Innovation, inventiveness and thought leadership.
    • Abreast of global mind-set and best practice.
    • Willing and flexible to travel within Africa and Middle East.
    • English (French advantageous).
