    Groundsman Supervisor -Somerset West

    Job Description

    We are looking for a Groundsman Supervisor to work at our Bridgewater Manor. 

    The Groundsman Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Groundsmen at the village. Duties include job scheduling, task allocation, quality assurance and customer service. 

    Also  responsible for ensuring the maintenance of the gardens and grounds of the village and ensuring an acceptable appearance of trees, shrubs, flowers, beds and lawns, and to keep the grounds free from refuse, weeds, harmful insects and plant diseases. Maintaining equipment and materials, and for ensuring adequate stock levels of consumables.
    Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
    Supervisory:

    • Scheduling of work tasks
    • Attend monthly meetings to advise and take note of any areas of concern
    • Supervise staff and support employees to achieve productivity targets
    • Review work methods and systems for improved productivity and quality 
    • Regularly check the quality of work being done by the Groundsmen
    • Ensure that stock is ordered and received as required (materials, chemicals and plants as needed
    • Provide training to staff, e.g. transplanting or pruning trees or shrubs, using equipment, caring for turf, etc
    • Support and assist employees to achieve productivity targets
    • Identify diseases or pests affecting landscaping and order appropriate treatments
    • Inventory supplies of tools, equipment, or materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available and items are in usable condition
    • Enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety
    • Highlight areas of concern to the Horticulturist or Village Manager
    • Address complaints and resolve problems with assistance from the Horticulturist

    Tools & Machinery:

    • Inspecting tools before and after use (lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, brush-cutters)
    • Ensure all tools are cleaned at the end of each days use
    • Ensure that blades of all cutting equipments are oiled and sharpened 

    Qualifications

    • Matric advantageous
    • Relevant qualification advantageous, i.e. National Diploma: Landscape Technology

    Experience and knowledge

    • 3 year’s relevant experience in a similar role
    • Proven experience in supervising staff
    • Knowledge of horticultural practises
    • Knowledge of chemical (disease) types and dilutions
    • Knowledge of horticultural machinery and tools
    • Knowledge of irrigation systems
    • Knowledge of plants and gardening techniques
    • Ability to perform grounds maintenance tasks
    • Ability to draw up and implement work schedules and adjust as needed 
    • Ability to research and implement best practises

    Specific Requirements:

    Working hours: Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 until 17h00 with a 45 minute lunch break. 

    Salary from R20,000 Cost to Company per month.
