Health and Safety Officer (Lichtenburg) at Afrimat

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

• National Diploma Safety Management or Equivalent
• 3 to 5 years’ experience as health and safety officer
• Attained knowledge proficiency in the development of Health & Safety Management System; establishing of policies, procedures and guidelines; conducting risk assessment, audit, inspection and accident investigation; managing of contractor; and facilitating training
• Well-versed with all the relevant local Health & Safety acts, regulations

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

• Play an active role in implementing and maintaining health & safety procedures, systems and guidelines at the plant
• Plan, organize and implement relevant Health & Safety’s activities and programmes in enhancing the plant safe work culture
• Provide expert advice and support on Health & Safety issues to the plant management team in ensuring compliance and adherence to relevant local legislation, Occupational Health & Safety Act as well as best industry practices
• Provide guidance and support in understanding and complying with the Health and Safety Standards and Management System
• Conduct emergency drills as per the schedule
• Participate and advise management on health and safety requirements regarding design and installation of new and modified facilities and equipment
• Provide and advise the plant on contractor’s safety management requirements
• Participate in plant management committees and advise the plant Health and Safety committees
• Provide support and expert advice to the Health and Safety Representatives
• Participate and advice in the development of plant’s health & safety annual objectives, targets and action plans, and formulation of health and safety capital and operating expenditure
• Conduct regular plant audits and inspections, and to provide recommendations with follow-up to ensure health and safety performance improvement
• Participate in incident investigations
• Coach, train and enhance the health and safety awareness, knowledge and skills of employees and contractors within the plant in equipping them with knowledge to work safely
