Duties and Responsibilities
    
Duty Room

• Manning the Duty Room at the times specified above (as per the duty roster). Open up earlier for sport on Saturdays if required
• Log all approved requests in the daily diary
• Record all telephonic parental permissions in the appropriate places
• Check that all boarders sign in and out correctly in the daily activity book and keep tabs on their whereabouts
• Check the daily activity book and hand over to the next mistress on duty
• Monitor visitors to the hostel
• Monitor afternoon tea
• Ring the bells
• Ensure that girls go to prep and to meals on time as required
• Dispense medicines and log in the medical diary
• Liaison with parents as required
• Always ensure that the boarders are safe
• Create a happy environment
• Look after and take good, loving care of the boarders
• Help boarders with school work or guide them on where to get the necessary information
• Monitor the use of the hostel computers
• Help boarders with their emotional needs and listen to them when they have problems
• Treat the boarders as individuals and get to know each girl and her specific needs
• Develop a relationship with the girls that is mutually trusting
• Refer all concerns and/or problems to the superintendent

 
Other responsibilities when on duty

• Open up the hostel in the morning and open the shutters
• Supervise supper in the dining room on duty nights
• Lock up securely at night
• Shut down the computer room at night
• Ensure that the grade 8's clean the common room at night and that the grade 9's shut the shutters
• Acquaint yourself with emergency procedures
• Ensure that the laundry is not being abused
• Monitor noise control in the hostel
• Insist on a polite code of conduct towards staff, fellow boarders and visitors
• Monitor what the girls are wearing
• Attend staff meetings as required
• Accompany girls on outings when required
• Chaperone girls at functions when required

Minimum Requirements    

• The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
• A single female (no partners or pets can be accommodated)
• A non-smoker of sober habits
• Computer literate with the ability to demonstrate proficiency in using MS Office (Word, Excel, Email, Internet)
• A strong team player
• Passionate working with teenage girls
• Ability to demonstrate initiatives
• Attention to detail, with initiative and a proactive approach
• Report writing skills
• Flexibility to work outside working hours
• Physically fit and energetic
