    HR Business Partner (Central Region)

    Job Description

    • There is an exciting opportunity to join Nando's People Department as a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), based at our head office. (Central Kitchen Johannesburg)

    • The HRBP operates within a defined region i.e., Gauteng (Central Region) partnering with Casa Operations and relevant regional teams, providing direction, guidance and assistance on all HR-related matters, with a specific focus on policy, system and procedure adherence. The role will drive the implementation of relevant People initiatives and provide People insights to enable effective decision-making at the regional level.

    Minimum Requirements

    • NQF level 7 or equivalent qualification (Human Resources/ Industrial Psychology)
    • 5 - 8 years HR generalist experience
    • Strong experience on Employee Relations
    • Experience working in a field HR position, travelling to multiple locations within an allocated region

    Advantageous 

    • Post graduate qualification
    • Previous FMCG, Hospitality or Retail experience
    • Legal Requirements
    • Driver’s License (Code 8)

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    1. Regional People Support 

    • Ensure the implementation of the People strategy and business/people plan within region
    • Provide input to HR strategies, policies, practices and principles on an ongoing basis and where relevant 
    • Coordinate and align business activity to the HR corporate calendar at regional level
    • Actively identify gaps in HR process, policy and procedure and proposes changes necessary to cover risks and maintain governance
    • Set up, coordinate and chair the Nandoca Communication Forum (NCF) within the region to ensure all Nandocas remain aware of all relevant business information and that all Casa-related information is escalated to Line Manager / Central Support where necessary
    • Special project implementation in region in support of the People Strategy

    2. Talent Acquisition & Management

    • Partner with HR Shared Service (HRSS) in the execution of regional staffing plans and the acquisition of talent, including reviewing the suitability of selected candidates, conducting interviews, advising on final selections and managing the full hiring process
    • Support the onboarding of new Nandocas to ensure the best experience for Nandocas
    • Facilitate talent management activities such as succession planning; identifying high potential Nandocas and partnering with L&D (COE) to develop a diverse talent pipeline that meets the short and long-term goals of the region

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Supporting Nandoca Experience initiatives in the implementation of related initiatives that foster a positive culture and enhance the Employee Experience for all nandocas
    • Understand the specific Line Manager requirements per vacancy
    • In partnership with HRSS, proactively source candidates via the internal database, headhunting, referrals, the internet, agencies, educational institutions and the like
    • Review recruitment requests for compliance and report any non-conformance
    • In partnership with HRSS, advertise all open roles either, internally or externally, in accordance with available profiles
    • In partnership with HRSS, review and qualify all applications received in accordance with Nando’s recruitment policies and procedures
    • In partnership with HRSS, conduct all relevant reference and verification checks
    • In partnership with HRSS, conduct detailed screening of candidates, in accordance with pre-determined questionnaires to establish strengths, skills and requirements
    • In partnership with HRSS, coordinate interviews for Line Manager (HRBP to always be present), ensuring that all relevant recruitment standards are adhered to
    • In partnership with HRSS, communicate with candidates, including the provision of accurate job requirements, updates regarding applications and the stages of the recruitment process
    • Provide thorough feedback and candidate updates to relevant Line Manager
    • Manage onboarding documentation together with Line Manager, ensuring system and process compliance
    • Ensure compliance to the minimum wage / salaries as aligned to the applicable collective agreements / national minimum wage or Company-defined pay scales (depending on role)

    3. Reward Management 

    • Support all regional/national Nandoca incentive programmes i.e. LOC, Siyani Thanda, etc. 
    • Facilitate reward and recognition programmes in the region

    Ensure governance around the implementation of regional reward and recognition programmes and initiatives

    4. Employee Relations 

    • Investigate and resolve any Nandoca careline / Whistle Blower complaints as well as any formally raised grievances
    • Manage the process of acquiring restaurants in line with Section 197 of the Labour Relations Act.
    • Provide guidance on and co-facilitate performance improvement processes for restaurant Nandocas
    • Implement and advise on ER policies and procedures to ensure fair and equitable practices and the effective management of disciplinary issues
    • Support the disciplinary and grievance process by reviewing and signing off on all Final written warnings issued
    • Guide, prepare for and manage the drafting, issuing, scheduling and preparation of disciplinary hearings, attending CCMA and Bargaining Council cases, as required
    • Ensure visibility in the Casas through regular, ongoing visits
    • Manage and maintain the relationship with trade unions within the region against the relevant union / Bargaining council agreements (where applicable)
    • Guide and monitor Casa Management behaviour to ensure that any mistreatment of Nandocas is addressed
    • Consult, guide and co-facilitate discussions on any changes to Nandoca terms and conditions
    • Manage Section 189 processes, as per the Labour Relations Act
    • Manage the services provided by external partners, such as the GEO (Guardian Employers Organisation) Act as a key contact point for Nandocas and Line
    • Managers in the region, including coaching and advising on HR needs and people practices
    • Ensure regional compliance to relevant legislation and Company policies
    • Implement People policies and procedures in the region, ensuring that these are effectively communicated and understood
    • Address non-compliance to HR policies, processes and procedures
    • Communicate, implement and monitor the Regional Employment Equity plan to ensure that targets are achieved
