Information Specialists - Johannesburg at IIE Rosebank College

Job Purpose:

Information Specialists design, develop and manage collections of recorded material and the delivery of information services to users. Library collections can include books, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, manuscripts, maps, films, sound recordings, microfilms, CD-ROMs, e-books, e-journals and databases. The position also supports research and research practice for both students and Online Students. Promote intellectual integrity and ethical scholarship.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage Online Library activities by facilitating access and process.
• Ensure proper management of library resources particularly hard copy books on loan to tutors.
• Maintain library databases:
• Symphony
• Library Connect/OPAC
• Ebscohost
• Sabinet
• Emerald, etc
• Conduct relevant live orientation for all students and online tutors at the beginning of the first and second semesters.
• Maintain an orientation package on the Learn platform for use by students and tutors.
• Promote responsible use of the intellectual property and law compliance by conducting training.
• Develop and manage library data collection.
• Ensure that relevant and latest resources are available in the virtual Online library.
• Promote library services to students and Online Tutors.
• Support Teaching and Learning and teach library users skills on proper and responsible use of the intellectual property.

Minimum Requirements:

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science
• NQF level 7 qualification in Library and Information Services

Experience

• 3 years of experience in a relevant field, preferably an academic library
• 2 years of experience in library administration/management experience

• Knowledge and understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.
  Knowledge and understanding of the Teaching and Learning theory and interventions.
• The ability to provide student support services.
• The ability to work with and learn more about digitalized academic platforms.
• The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations.
• Ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.
• Deadline-orientated and can work well under pressure.
• Ability to manage time effectively.
