    Junior Laboratory Assistant (Half-Day) TB01482

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • The project requires a Junior Laboratory Assistant to provide laboratory and data management support to ensure the timely achievement of project deliverables. The incumbent will assist with routine laboratory experiments, manage and curate experimental data within the Collaborative Drug Discovery (CDD) Vault, and maintain accurate research records.
    • The position will also support project coordination by attending project meetings and facilitating the sharing of research data with collaborators, contributing to the efficient implementation of the project's research objectives.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Data Management and CDD Vault Administration:

    • Capture, curate, organise, and maintain experimental data in the CDD Vault; ensure data accuracy, integrity, and timely availability for project reporting and collaboration.

    Laboratory Support:

    • Assist with routine laboratory experiments, sample preparation, reagent preparation, and general laboratory duties in accordance with SOPs and project requirements.

    Project Coordination and Collaboration:

    • Attend project meetings, prepare meeting notes where required, facilitate data sharing with collaborators, and assist with project documentation and communication.

    Laboratory Administration:

    • Organise research data; contribute to progress reports, presentations, manuscripts, and other project outputs; ensure proper data management and record keeping.

    Minimum requirements

    • A BSc honours degree (NQF level 8) in Biochemistry.
    • A minimum of one (1) year’ experience as a technician. 

    RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • Membership with the South African biochemistry and molecular biology.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Knowledge of basic microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry laboratory techniques. 
    • Experience with routine laboratory procedures, including sample preparation, media preparation, reagent handling, and record keeping.
    • Proficiency in electronic data management systems, preferably the Collaborative Drug Discovery (CDD) Vault or similar laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
    • Ability to accurately capture, curate, and maintain experimental data and research records.
    • Knowledge of basic microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry laboratory techniques.

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. 
    • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
    • Good time management.
