    Lecturer in Financial Accounting (Extended Curriculum Programme)
    (Contract ending 31 December 2025)

    The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines including Accounting, Finance, Management and Entrepreneurship, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, School of Government and the Academic Literacies Progamme. 

    The Department of Accounting has accreditation with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). The Department offers a three-year undergraduate degree and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) towards SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence (ITC). The Department also offers an alternative three-year degree in Accounting which is accredited by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).

    The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Accounting and as part of the Extended Curriculum Programme, and will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Facilitating learning at undergraduate level, primarily in the area of Financial Accounting.
    • Academic administration. 
    • Conducting research and publishing.
    • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
    • Undertaking curriculum development and assessment.
    • Participating in community engagement and outreach.

    Minimum Requirements

    • A relevant Masters, preferably in Accounting Education, or CA (SA) qualification
    • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning in higher education in the field of Accounting or a related field

    Added advantages:

    • A PhD in Accounting Education or one of the core areas namely Auditing, Financial Accounting, Taxation or Management Accounting & Financial Management
    • Experience teaching on an extended curriculum (foundation) programme

    • Student focused approach
    • Planning and organising skills
    • Computer literacy and e-learning skills
    • Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership
