    Mechanic Diesel

    • The Mechanic Diesel will be responsible to support continued depot sales operations by ensuring reliable fleet through providing electrical and mechanical advice and services to ensure the overall effectiveness of all vehicles on site.

    Qualification Requirements    

    • Matric/ Grade 12
    • N3/N4 Qualification (Auto Electrical/ Mechanical)
    • Trade Test certificate (Red Seal)
    • Code 10 Drivers License with PDP

    Experience Requirements    

    • To ensure uninterrupted depot operations and on-time deliveries, maintain 95–98% fleet availability by performing proactive preventative maintenance, prioritising timely repairs, and coordinating vehicle readiness with operations.
    • To reduce breakdowns and extend vehicle lifespan, complete all scheduled minor, major, and OEM-required services within prescribed intervals, ensuring accurate service records and full compliance with maintenance management systems.
    • To minimise repeat failures and unplanned downtime, conduct accurate diagnostics and complete mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs within standard repair times (SRTs), ensuring first-time-fix quality before releasing vehicles.
    • To reduce roadside delays and operational disruptions, provide rapid response to depot and on-road breakdowns, achieve targeted Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR), and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
    • To improve fleet reliability and operational efficiency, analyse breakdown trends, identify root causes of recurring defects, recommend practical solutions, and implement corrective and preventative actions in collaboration with the Transport Controller.
    • To support cost-effective fleet operations, control maintenance expenditure by preventing rework, optimising parts usage, reducing wastage, improving inventory management, and aligning repair decisions with budget requirements.
    • To optimise long-term fleet performance and capital investment, monitor vehicle condition and performance trends, evaluate cost of repairs versus replacement, and recommend refurbishments or replacements aligned with operational and financial objectives.
    • To ensure vehicle safety and protect the organisation from regulatory and reputational risk, inspect and verify braking, steering, suspension, emissions, and other safety-critical systems in line with OEM, SHEQ, RTMS, and roadworthy standards, maintaining zero tolerance for unsafe practices.
    • To ensure compliance with the National Road Traffic Act and Occupational Health and Safety requirements, maintain and enforce adherence to approved SOPs, process controls, inspection protocols, and documentation standards to ensure all fleet activities meet legal and regulatory requirements.
    • To ensure efficient maintenance planning and execution, collaborate with fleet controller, depot manager, drivers, suppliers, and external service providers to coordinate vehicle availability, specialised repairs, parts procurement, and technical guidance.
    • To maintain operational transparency and informed decision-making, complete accurate job cards, inspection reports, and defect logs on time, communicate recurring risks, and ensure all work meets company quality standards before vehicle release.
