    Openserve Engineer: Development Laboratories

    About the Job

    • Do you enjoy acting as a technical expert addressing problems on multiple platform and systems to enhance integration and compatibility? Do you enjoy conducting research to advise on appropriate technologies to address business problems?
    • If so, then we have just the stimulating and exciting role for you. An Openserve Engineer position is currently available, focused on software development and engineering, particularly for electrical engineers or computer scientists.

    Requirements:

    • Experience in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Software Design: Candidates should have a background in OOP and software design, which is essential for developing electronic products and services.
    • Experience in C#/.NET or Java/Java EE Development: Familiarity with C#/.NET or Java/Java EE development is required, as these are commonly used programming languages for software development.
    • Experience in MS SQL and/or PL/SQL Database Development: Knowledge of MS SQL and/or PL/SQL database development is important, as databases play a crucial role in many software applications.
    • Experience with Visual Studio/Visual Studio Code or Similar IDE: Proficiency in using development environments like Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code, or similar Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), is expected.

    Core Responsibilities and Functions:

    • Compile Technical Specification: Gathering information, analyzing requirements, and creating technical specifications.
    • Developed Modules: Investigating available technology, designing modules, and drafting design reports.
    • Provided Design Support: Assisting with installation/product problems, investigating/solving defects, and providing training and support.
    • Provided Internal Support Functions: Determining support needs, communicating with customers/promoters, and procuring necessary tools and equipment.
    • Integrated Product: Producing electronic modules and circuits, wiring fields and harnesses, and conducting field tests.
    • Developed Software: Writing software modules, integrating them, testing the software, and debugging.
    • Compiled Documents: Preparing and delivering presentations, proofreading documents, and generating illustrations, drawings, and flowcharts.
    • Proposed Product: Promoting products, formulating proposals, and modifying proposals based on customer needs.
    • Conducted Feasibility Study: Designing and testing concepts, compiling proposal documents, and conducting research.

    Functional Knowledge:

    • Digital Electronics / Computer Software / Computer-Aided Design
    • C#/.NET or Java/Java EE development
    • MS SQL and/or PL/SQL database development
    • Visual Studio/Visual Studio Code or similar IDE
    • Source control management (SCM) system like Git

    Minimum Person Requirements:

    • Relevant 4-year Degree (e.g., B.Sc., B.Eng, B.Tech) at NQF level 8.
    • No specific work experience is required, but experience obtained during studies or other relevant work experience in OOP and software design is expected.
    • Certification or professional registration is not mandatory but can be beneficial.
    • Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa is recommended.
    • A valid driver's license is required.
    • Willingness to work outside normal working hours may be necessary.
