Pressure Vessel Design Engineer x 2 at Unique Group

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, career minded individual, with a strong work ethic, solid professional track record and a commitment to teamwork. They should have a B.Eng / B.Sc / B.Tech / N.Dip in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 to 10 years in a similar role and closely related field. (Marine industry preferable). The following skills are required which must be demonstrated by submitting examples:

• 5 years dedicated experience in pressure vessel design with ASME VIII division 1 and 2 and EN13445 which includes design and analysis using PV Elite, CodeCALC and SolidWorks
• 5 years dedicated experience in finite element analysis according to ASME VIII div 2, part 5
• 5 years dedicated experience in SolidWorks modeling and simulation
• 3 years dedicated experience in AutoCAD modeling and drafting
• 3 years’ experience is pressure vessel fabrication in exotic materials

Key Responsibilities – amongst others and not limited to:

• Detail design of pressure vessels and related components & interfacing mechanical components / mechanisms
• Develop concept designs of pressure vessels to facilitate proposals and perform budget costings
• Perform the structural analysis of a pressure vessel and prepare design reports, using pressure vessel software, analysis as well as from first principles
• Produce SolidWorks detail designs, conceptual drawings and manufacturing drawings as required
• Review and checking of drawings, calculations, and analysis input/output
• Lead and guide draftsman in creating of conceptual drawings and manufacturing drawings as required
• Manage, review, and approve sub-contractor/outsourced designs and integrate design inputs from them
• Read and interrogate 3rd party codes and standards and apply to designs (examples: IMCA, ABS, DNV, LR, ASME, EN, SANS etc.)
• Prepare design submissions for 3rd party appraisal (documents, drawings, design reports etc.)
• Liaise with 3rd party and resolve technical queries and/or comments throughout the design appraisal process
• Liaise with AIA and subcontractors (Approved inspection authority) and resolve technical queries and/or comments throughout the design appraisal and production/manufacturing phases as required
• Produce testing and validation documentation: FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), Inspection Reports, Quality Control Plans, painting and corrosion protection guidelines
• Review and interrogate client specifications/requirements and formulate technical specifications/descriptions as well as produce purchasing specifications
• Software: SolidWorks, AutoCad, MathCAD, PVElite, CodeCALC, MS Office suite, MS D365 (ERP)
• Experience with Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and FMECA would be advantageous

Additional Skills Required:

• High level of technical competency in the fundamentals of mechanical engineering design and analysis
• Hands-on experience in assembly and operation of high-pressure machines and pressure vessels would be advantageous
• Experience in PVHO, machinery, structural design, metallurgy, and coating specifications would be advantageous
• Must possess a demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic team environment, under pressure, manage multiple tasks, quality management, risk management, planning/schedule management and goal oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• PR registration would be advantageous
• Ability to work overtime when required
• Position may require international travel
