    Primary Markets Associate - JHB

    Job Purpose:

    • To provide quantitative, qualitative analysis, research, and support of sales for the Primary Markets team across the asset classes: Equities, Fixed Income and Specialist Securities in the delivery of the division's strategy and objectives.
    • Build out the listings pipeline of the division.

    Job Content:

    Results Delivery:

    • Contribute towards strategic thinking for crafting of division's business plan based on professional knowledge and experience, to ensure delivery of focus areas for the year.
    • Assist in developing insights and presentations to the asset class managers across the asset classes, including drafting briefing notes for the team.
    • Assist in providing market-conditions-related insights by gathering, collating, and analysing data, market and customer insights on a regular basis or as required.
    • Play a supporting role in the administration of the division including but not limited to planning meetings, taking meeting notes, developing action items, and following up.
    • Assist in the preparation of research and material for Sustainability, Group Strategy and Market Quality initiatives (on the Responsible Investment Index etc) as needed.
    • Provide support for the assessments of the company for ESG-related filings such as ESG ratings and PRI submissions.

    Stakeholder Relationship Management:

    • Ensure collaborative relationships with all stakeholders are built and maintained using strong interpersonal skills to ensure client requirements are met and that they are relevant to the strategy and division delivery plan.
    • Identify needs of the managers of the respective asset classes and supporting them in there.

    Process Management:

    • Contribute towards quantitative and qualitative analysis, research, and benchmarking in support of business units.
    • Understand the asset classes including the growing segments for example with Fixed income, growth in Sustainability and Green bonds.
    • Communicate effectively and timely with the managers in the division and the colleagues throughout the organisation to be efficient and effective.
    • Maintain the administration of the division's sales pipeline and support the division's market coverage initiatives.
    • Assist with the Market Quality analytics framework including, but not limited to:
    • Understanding the different metrics, what they measure, how they should be used as well as any pitfalls.
    • Support divisional head with material for engagement with market and Exco heads, clients (and possibly regulators) to decide which metric should be focused on for benchmarking and ongoing market measurement.
    • Analyse the impact on the company and its clients based on these metrics.
    • Performing root cause analysis on any outlier metrics and anomalies.
    • Manage the quality and timing of own delivery against delivery plan and set timelines, identify obstacles to delivery and take appropriate action where required to ensure timeous and cost-effective delivery.
    • Analyse markets and financial data, trends, behaviours, and regulatory trends (within and external to the company), related to the financial services industry, to determine patterns and trends to underpin recommendations for creating, developing, maintaining, and enhancing services and products.
    • Research global leading economic and financial key indicators to alert markets on opportunities and threats.
    • Ensure own good understanding of the relationship between business and IT systems to enable self to integrate these into cohesive reports.
    • Explore strategic issues pertinent to the company through research and benchmarking.
    • Support unit head with engagements with the client to understand and evaluate their needs by assessing the rationale for the need and determining the priority to focus on projects with highest business value utilising business knowledge and good understanding of all systems and databases.
    • Present research insights to internal and external stakeholders and/or clients.
    • Assist with ESG client interaction and query handling as needed (e.g., during quarterly RI index reviews).
    • Assist with preparation, planning and execution for ESG-related events as needed.
    • Provide ESG admin support (database maintenance; correspondence with clients/stakeholders etc.).

    • Improve personal capability and professional growth relating to field of expertise, in line with objectives by discussing development needs and proposed solutions with management.

    • Analyse, research, develop and implement improvement/innovative ideas and value adding solutions contributing to divisional and results.

    Education:

    • Essential Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Marketing, Sales.
    • Preferred Qualification: Post Graduate Degree in a Commerce related discipline.

    Previous Experience:

    • 5 years’ experience in financial markets.
