    Production Manager: Upholstery

    Job Purpose:
    The Production Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing all operations in the upholstery division of the factory. The purpose of this role is to ensure that all aspects of the manufacturing process is managed effectively and efficiently.

    This position will be based at our Cape Town DC in Epping. 

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Lead and manage the upholstery division, including planning, organizing, and coordinating activities to achieve production targets.
    • Oversee all aspects of production, including receiving orders, scheduling, and allocating resources effectively to ensure timely delivery of products.
    • Ensure that the product meets the required quality standards. Monitor and maintain quality control measures throughout the production process.
    • Manage production process to achieve targets most efficiently and cost-effectively. This includes optimizing production processes, reducing waste, and minimizing downtime. Set goals, objectives, and standards of measurement for the factory.
    • Develop and maintain production schedules to ensure smooth workflow and maximize utilization of equipment and workforce.
    • Manage and mentor a team of upholsterers and supporting staff, motivating them to achieve performance targets, continuously learn new skills, and maintain a positive work environment.
    • Ensure adequate inventory levels of materials and supplies.
    • Partner with the System & Production Planner to monitor and analyze production data, such as productivity, quality metrics, and cost, to identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper use and maintenance of machinery, tools, and equipment.
    • Set and manage budgets, set financial goals, and monitor financial performance. This includes analysing production costs, identifying areas for cost savings, and making strategic financial decisions to improve overall profitability.
    • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including senior management, customers, suppliers, other departments. Report to CEO on progress, achievements, challenges, and opportunities.

    Qualifications and experience requirements:

    • Grade 12
    • Relevant Diploma / Degree in Engineering, Production / Operations Management or a related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment of which a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management role.
    • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in managing upholstery operations in a manufacturing or furniture industry setting preferred.

    Functional Requirements:

    • Strong knowledge of upholstery techniques, materials, and machinery, including fabric cutting, sewing, pattern matching, and upholstery installation.
    • Excellent leadership and management skills, with experience in leading and developing teams to achieve production targets.
    • Ability to develop and implement process improvements and lean manufacturing principles.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality and craftsmanship standards.
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and coordinate cross-functionally within the organization.
    • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
